Memphis Grizzlies playoff chances
The Memphis Grizzlies have had a very successful year so far. They sit at 17-17, the latest that they've been at or above .500 since the 2005-06 season when they finished 49-33. With their recent successful streak, what are their chances of making the playoffs? Do you think they will?
They have made drastic improvements over last season without any major roster moves. I think they have a decent shot at making the playoffs, but will probably fall a little short. Even if they fall short, having "Grizzlies" and "playoffs" in the same sentence is newsworthy!

I personally would love to see the Grizzlies make the Playoffs, but they are a bunch of solid teams stacked up around that 7 - 8th spot in the East that will probably surpass Memphis.
Rudy Gay is one of my favorite players to watch, and Mayo is just as exciting. With the addition of Thabeet, and Gasol making progress in that Center position the Grizz will surely be a Playoff team in the near future.

Grizzlies are in the west though...if they were in the east, chances are that they could sneak into the 7/8th spot easier than in the west based on records this season.

I give them 10% chance at making the playoffs in the West.... too bad they don't play in the East

Yeah, not in the East my bad.
Now that I look at their division, if the Grizz keep up their record they might have a better chance since they are in the West.
The higher seeds seem way better than the low seeds, so there might be a weak team sneaking in at 8.
Houston 7th seed
OKC 8th seed
I cant see Houston playing much better than recently and probably will have a fall-off after the All-Star break. The Thunder might be a legitimate Playoff team if their young core stays healthy.

Their young nucleus is promising, many talented players. I don't think they make the playoffs this year, but in the next couple years, when the contenders in the West begin to get up there in age (Spurs are an example), the Grizzlies might find themselves as perennial contenders.

Put them in the East (which is where they should be anyways, considering Memphis is farther East than most of the Central Division teams), and they'd make the Playoffs easily.

They aren't in the East though...they are in the same division as the Spurs, Rockets, Mavs and Hornets.
