Some Major Retail Mojo: Lucky Weekend with a Question

Well on Saturday I headed out to Target to search for the ever elusive 2010 Topps... but came up empty. It was odd because things were just restocked and it looked like a fresh delivery of cards was there; some fresh boxes of Bowman Draft and SP Authentic. Anyhow, figured I'd hit up the Bowman Draft as I've only tried like 3 packs of this stuff, and wanted some purple refractors. I also found, deep behind blasters of various unwanted kinds, the discount bin. However it was not in its usual disaray. In fact, it was fresh stocked. The goods? About 20 packs of 07 Fleer Ultra and 08 Topps Baseball, lots of 07-08 NBA Topps Chrome, some 08 MLB and NFL Chrome, 7 packs of 08 Bowman, some Topps Heritage, and some other various older NFL and NHL cards. I never had opened basketball or hockey, but then again I could not name 3 hockey players (I know the names Ovenchkin and Brodour. Can't tell you anymore than that. lol). So I tried one pack of NBA, since it was chrome. At $1.59 each, you can't argue.

Well anyway heres the discount bin goods I came away with:

    1 Pack 2007 Fleer Ultra
    2 Packs 2008 Topps Heritage
    7 Packs 2008 Bowman Baseball
1 Pack 2008 Topps Chrome Baseball
1 Pack 2008 Donruss Classics Football
1 Pack 2007 Leaf Rookies and Stars Football
1 Pack 2008 Topps Chrome NFL
1 Pack 2008 Press Pass Football
1 Pack 2007-08 Topps Chrome NBA

After looking and opening the bowman, I imagine these were left from a blaster someone opened, as there were 7 (8 per blaster). Someone most likely opened it, felt the packs and found the one with the jersey and bought/stole that. Pretty messed up but it got me cheaper packs.. lol.

I also picked through the regular priced stuff and came out with these:

2 Packs 2009 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects
1 Jumbo Rack Pack 2009 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects
1 Rack Pack 2009 Mayo Cut Plug Football
1 Pack 2009 Topps Heritage American Heroes Edition (only pack there. It was stuffed into a box of 09 UD Baseball. I never tried this stuff so I bought one pack to sample. Glad I did as you will see.

Well I was gonna only rip a few and save the rest, but that didn't last after the first pack lol. Anyway heres scans of the best stuff from them..

*** Just wanna note. I couldn't get the pics to show up when inserted directly into the thread, so I just put them as URLs. If someone can tell me how, please let me know and I'll fix that.

    - The Owings is a SP

    - The Press Pass fb card is a reflector, and the Steve Smith is a refractor.

    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CU10fMHbw1...0-h/img139.jpg

    - The Volquez is a refractor.

Well not bad right? Well good thing it got WAY better.

The first pack I opened was one of the Bowmans. This pull led me to believe the idea of the blaster as I've seen 3 of these opened and all yielded an auto and jsy. And an amateur pack searcher wouldn't find the auto, just the jsy.

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CU10fMHbw1...0-h/img143.jpg

Then it got better. Although I didn't pull a SINGLE purple refractor out of either of the loose packs or the rack pack, I did pull this.. which is a little bit better...

Its Bowman Chrome. Its on card. Its out of retail. Its one of the best pitchers in the minors. What a pull. And somehow it got better.

The lone Heritage American Heroes pack. Figured I'd just look at the cards and probably never buy another pack. In fact the base cards are some of the ugliest ones I've seen in a while... but yet I like them. Well I ripped the pack and was shuffling through the cards when I saw this. I had to look twice before I realized what it was.

Yes. A Rogers Hornsby bat card out of retail. That's a better hit than I've ever pulled out of any Hobby packs.

Well then, on Sunday I went out to Sports Authority to get new batting gloves (I managed to lose my old pair at the training place I go to..), and my mom had a few "Free, $5 off on any purchase $5 or more". So I used one on the gloves and with the other I picked up another pack of Heritage (they only had this or UD series 1 and 2 fatpacks, I hated this year's UD flagship so that was a no), this time a hangin fat pack. Well I did my usual going 7 back onto the hook and pulled out that one. I got it free (well like 10 cents tax lol) and headed home. Later that night I pulled out my free pack and ripped it. My jaw dropped:

However. I then saw the corner. Wow. Awful damage. The back was bad too.

I mean I don't even know how this card can be so bad and the base just fine. And there is now way this was a pack searcher. It looks like it was jammed under something and dragged. Really bad. I plan to send this back, but I was wondering if you guys think I'll get a fair replacement? I really hope I do. This is a HUGE pull.

Well even with the Cobb being damaged, this was an amazing breaking week. Hope my luck carrys over to my next trip to the card shop.. lol.

Thanks everyone. Even though the Cobb was damaged but I was shocked to have this kinda luck. I've never had this luck from retail or hobby. I mean it was only like $40 in packs too.

ha i love it how topps says it brings you closer to the game on the back but really, it is just making you angry at how damaged the card is
try the topps website for damage replacement
they normally only take like 3 weeks to get the card back
