    Apple announces new tablet

    http://mashable.com/2010/01/27/apple-ipad/

Looks great, but I'm not that impressed with the name iPad. I had heard that most expected these to be in the $999 range so $499 for the cheapest version seems very reasonable.

It looks cool but I don't get what you are supposed to do with it that is that great or better than a regular laptop. It seems like the segway of computers, kind of cool looking but I don't understand why it's supposed to be so great

It's pretty much the response to the Kindle which is an ebook reader, but it sounds like Apple took it to the nth degree. I haven't seen the iPad in person and I have only seen a Kindle I, but it looks like it completely dominates the kindle.

As far as comparing to a laptop, Yes it's similar in price to a PC laptop but not an Apple laptop. Plus it's a lot smaller than a laptop so it's more portable. I guess it's pretty much a large iPod touch. Seems pretty awesome to me, but not sure I'd buy one.

It's a really cool device for movies and ebooks, but if you have an iphone, ipod, or laptop, there's really no need for an ipad.

true, but with the larger screen it makes it more useful for a lot of the multimedia stuff you do on the itouch. I don't see myself buying one, but it's pretty cool.

Don't you guys realize that the 24th century is coming early? This is Star Trek stuff here. Remember those datapads they are always using? This is the precursor to that.

Seriously though, it looks pretty cool. I was thinking it's not something I would get much use out of, but after looking at the features this thing looks great.
