Pencil Autos
Hey everybody, sorry to start an entirely new topic for a mundane question but here it goes:
This morning I received a Sparky Anderson HOF plaque postcard signed in pencil. I have never received an auto in pencil before and am wondering...
1) Will it really fade?
2) Is there any special way of preserving it?
Thanks and again, sorry for creating another topic for a simple question I know it clutters the forums but figured this might be something worth exploring.

It will probably fade and the only way I can think of preserving it is hairspray, as that is how I preserve sketches I recieve from comic book artists, however I do not know if it will work well on a HOF plaque!

Well I actually have a college degree in history and studied general preservation and archiving a bit but it was old documents of a former Congressional leader on regular old paper or stationary nothing like a glossy postcard.

My suggestion is to drop another in the mail to him and add a cheap Bic pen to your mailing. Pencil autos are not as popular for a reason and that is they either smudge or fade so much easier than ink on a glossy stock. It looks like all you end up with is an indentation. Even at his advanced age he has been a great signer for us fans, congrats on the success.
