Well they should also cap teachers, fireman, police officers and anyone else that provides a service I suppose. I guess they should just publish a list of what each profession should earn.

I view health care in the same light as those services so a proportional pay scale would be fine w/ me.

You make the money you make based on how easy it is to replace you. That is why an NBA point guard makes more than a school teacher, and why a doctor makes more than a teacher. If teachers were as technical or as in high demand as Doctors they would make more money. Fact of the matter is it is a lot easier to replace a police officer than it is a neurosurgeon....

Under your theory why not cap everyones pay? A banker benefits on people overdrawing a bank account... A plumber benefits from someones pipes busting... a lawyer benefits on someone having legal issues...

I do have issues w/ the legal system b/c the wealthy can afford better representation which means better outcomes.

why be successful then? You are basically saying you shouldnt get paid better for being the elite among us. Why try? Why go to school and better yourself if you think someone flipping burgers should be more comparable to an attorney (which is basically what you are doing by capping pay) What part of the constitution gives the government the right to interfere into the private sector and limit pay for anyone?

I never said a fast food employee should earn the same as an elite professional. Also I feel health care should be under gov't control b/c it is a public service.

You could argue that everything is a public service though. And i know you didnt say they were the same but by capping anyones salary you are narrowing the gap between the two jobs therefore making schooling and training worth a lot less than before.

If a fast food employee made $30,000 and a doctor made $100,000 that's a huge difference.

IMO, (just what I think lol) education, social services, law enforcement, the legal system, and health care fall into the public realm.

That's the point...if there are fewer wealthy, the tax burden will have to be spread across more people. Or are we just going to raise the tax rate on the wealthy that are left to 75%?

I understand my ideas are out of the ordinary but something needs to be done about insurance and health care costs. If insurance companies except limits then I'm pretty sure they (Insurance Comp.) will expect the health care providers to do the same.

Actually they're not out of the ordinary any more. There's an increasingly larger proportion of the population who feels someone else should pay for their problems and excellence shouldn't be rewarded.

Exactly! We are becoming a nation of mediocrity. If you do well for yourself, succeed, and actually achieve what used to be the American Dream, you're punished with higher taxes and demonized by the left and the media. Now the "American Dream" is to not have to work hard, not have to be better than anyone else, and be able to take from those who do work hard and are better. Why try when you can just be a complete failure and have the successful people subsidize your failure?

No, people want to make enough to pay for their problems (or cheaper problems). Excellence should be rewarded but w/ limits.

How is raising taxes on the wealthy to provide for the poor wanting "to make enough to pay for their problems?"

What you're advocating is socialism, pure and simple. Take from the successful (or as you phrase it, restrict them from getting it to begin with) to give to the poor. That's redistribution of wealth and exactly one of the main tenets of socialism. It has been tried before and every time it was a miserable failure. Capitalism, on the other hand, created the greatest countries in the world.

The supply and demand of the market dictates income. Katie Couric is finding that out. Does anyone have a problem with her making $300,000 a week?

Completely disagree... Sit in my seat at work for a week and i am sure you would too... Some people want to float on by and push all their problems onto someone else and someone elses dime.
