I like the nicknames too. Bird had a slightly lesser-known nickname too (understandably so) - 'The Hick from French Lick' (Indiana)
Though he was not very athletic by NBA standards he had a sort of cunning and deceiving speed that you would not expect by looking at him. Check out the steal on I. Thomas inbounds pass in the playoffs. The announcer went crazy:
'Bird stole the ball, Bird stole the ball"
The other Dream Teamers called him the hardest-working man on the court.
