Now this I did not realize..

I know I am posting pretty much every little thing about basketball I can think of, but I am just trying to stay an active member through more than trading. Anyway, here is my latest discovery.

A year or so ago I bought a bunch of 07/08 topps cards. Today, I was looking through the 57/58 variations that I have. I noticed that an Allen Iverson was #'ed out of 119. I tried to figure out why and noticed that it said, "First Edition" on the front. It is the only 57/58 variation that I have that has this mark. Anyone know if this is only for this variation or do some of the base cards have it? I am going to look through all of my cards, but it would be cool if somebody knew before I spent all that time. Thanks.

the 57-58 variations are not the only cards in that year's topps that has a first edition set.....there are also 1st editions for the base set as well and they're also #ed /119

Cool. I had no idea until I saw the number on the back. None of my other cards are first edition though, just the one. Thanks for the reply.

I was unaware that the 5758's had 1st Edition's too - I knew the regular base did, as I have a Michael Conley RC 1st edition. Thanks for making me aware of this too :-)

Just so people like me who didn't know this existed know the 1st Edition symbol is in the top right hand corner of the card and the number is on the back right below the red line dividing the player name and the player bio.

topps came out with first edition in the 03-04 season(Lebron's RC year). I bought some from a dealer who was price gouging on this product. I have never bought from him since then.

If dealers bought a case of the regular topps they would get two boxes of first edition as well. First edition means the first ones printed and they have a little stamp/symbol on them, as you say. They have lower production runs than the regular topps but are by no means limited.

I have a 1st edition KG from 0304 and 0405 Topps, but neither are numbered...I assume that 0708 was the first year that they were numbered.

I didn't know they started numbering them either. I think it' s a good idea though.
