Platinum is a new product from Topps. It combines a former low-end product (Draft Picks & Prospects) with its 110 veterans/55 rookies and high-end pizzazz with the foil board and focus on rookie autographs. All base cards use a foil surface to give an extra sparkle to the cards. Each pack normally yields 3 veterans and 2 rookies. There are a couple of parallel refractor versions for each card. As a bonus, there's an additional foil board refractor for the rookies. Other than the refractors, there are no other inserts.

The autographs set their sights on 50 rookies. On average, you can expect two regular autographs and one patch autograph. All are numbered and refractors.

Topps has emerged with a product late in the football collecting season that has revitalized interest in their cards. While other are focusing on super high-end releases to end the year, Topps has put out an affordable and enjoyable product. The base cards are exciting. You get about two-thirds of a complete set including most of the rookies. Platinum avoids inserts and keeps the parallels to a minimum. The autograph sets are nice, but seem to be a copy of Bowman Sterling in design. Though the price has jumped on it, Platinum still continues to be a worthwhile investment.
