Question Need Advice: Returning Damaged Cards (09/10 Topps Gold Refractor)

I pulled a Jordan Hill 09/10 Topps Gold Refractor #50 and it is damaged.
It has a very bad bleed and I want to send it back.

I have returned a handful of damaged cards from Topps over the last 6 months (all 09/10 pulled from Jumbo boxes) and I never had a problem, received same cards back, all Mint.

I was concerned that Topps wouldn't have another Hill Gold Refractor, simply because, there's only 50.
I called Topps and they told me that it would be replaced (if they had it) or something of Equal Value would be given in place of.

    What is Equal Value?

I don't want to send the Hill in and get back Shane Battier.

The Hill has a bleed but other than this it's Mint.

    What would you do?

This is one of the reasons I have not opened any packs or bought any cards off ebay in the last few years. By 'bleed' do you mean the colour is bleeding on the gold border edges? A scan would be helpful.

If I recall correctly you are trying to collect the master set. As you say it is likely not possible to replace the Hill since it is /50. Therefore I would keep the card and just notify topps of the problem - send a scan and your box UPC if you still have it. I would tell them that you like their product (which you and many others do - myself included) this makes you less likely or reluctant to buy their products.

They may or may not do something for you. It sounds like you have had better luck with their customer service than I have in the past.

    Hope this helps

Ah, I see. Sort of what I expected. If you need the card for your master set I would keep it since it is going to be very hard to find, as you say. There are only 50 of them produced and not all of them have been pulled or will be pulled.

Regardless I would send that scan and your UPC box code to topps and see what they say.
Good luck trying to resolve the situation.

What if I send it and they send me back a Tyreke Evans?
    I could live with that.
