I personally like Stamkos, I think that kid is pretty darn slick.
Tavares is junk.

Guys, I do know that Niemi is 15 days past his eligibility but this is MY list. I stressed that in the article. I think the rules need revising because Jimmy Howard has played parts of three seasons, been on the team for a Cup run and he's still a rookie? Not in my world...

Also Rask isn't on my list because he doesn't really have a chance to be the starter, and hasn't to date. I think Niemi will win the starting job.

Tavares IS good. People seem very quick to forget that. His accomplishments certainly aren't to be over looked, after all the Islanders are one win and 3 points away from last season's record, with 20 games to be played yet. But it just doesn't compare to what Duchene and Myers have brought to their respective teams.
I don't discredit Niemi, and I don't know what kind of BS eligibility rules the NHL has for Calder candidacy, but I think when you look at a goaltender for ROY you have to look at what their team would be doing without them as much as with them. When Mason won the Calder, he did it by posting the most wins out of any goaltender in franchise history, becoming a Vezina candidate, and taking the team to their first ever playoff appearance. Niemi and Rask are extraordinarily good, likely the future of their respective teams... but they don't hold a candle to that accomplishment.

Okay some people need to realize some stuff. Last year buffalo was 41-32-9 for 91 points. finished 10th in the conference but was very close. buffalo was NOT a bad team last year. The avs were atrocious last year. 32-45-5 for 69 points. Don't give me the spiel about goaltending. you CANNOT win games without scoring. Last year the avs were dead last with only 199 goals. with 21 games to go they have 185. I seriously thought the avs would get MAYBE 60 points this season. they lost their leader, their heart and soul, and their best player in joe sakic. The avs have played just amazing and so much of the credit has to go to their young guys such as duchene. He has meant more to his team than any other rookie and he also has the most points. for that reason, anyone else winning calder (barring a terrible cold streak or injury) would be absolutely pathetic and just show what a joke the NHL is.

Doing my best not to make any of these arguments personal, but to say that the ENTIRE turnaround for Colorado is due to the arrival of Matt Duchene is to discredit the the production of fellow rookie Ryan O'Riley, 2nd year man TJ Galiardi, the career year being had by Craig Anderson (averaging half a goal a game less makes a lot of difference too) and even Budaj playing better as Anderson's backup, and the emergence of Paul Stastny as the team's premier player.
To say that "anyone else winning calder (barring a terrible cold streak or injury) would be absolutely pathetic and just show what a joke the NHL is." is a pretty bold statement to make about a player when a team has gone through a myriad of changes to get where they are now.

the Avs being bad for a year had and the sudden turnaround cannot be attributed to just Duchene coming on board. though the goalies were horrible, they were also riddled with injuries throughout the entire season. honestly, it was a fluke season much like the Flyers that one year when they were in last place for the league. both teams have had track records where they do consistently well. both teams' flops were for a year and then they were right back into the mix.

While I think Duchene and Myers really are the only two candidates for the Calder as of now, I agree Colorado's success is due in large part to so many players giving contributors, namely Craig Anderson.
