UD didn't remake 1971 OPC, so I went for the real thing (scan heavy)
I gave up on baseball after 1990 because there were so many different hockey and baseball products out there that I couldn't keep up with all of them anymore. When I saw the UD promos for the 1971 remake, I thought that was something I just had to go after. When they pulled the plug on it, I thought I'd see whether I liked the original as much as the remake.
I'm about 380 cards into it so far. Still not sure I think it's the best design. It's just an inverted 1970-71 hockey, which is a pretty dull set.
vs
(By contrast, I really love '72 and '73 and most of the late '60s OPC sets, so I've started into them, as well.)
Just wanted to post a few of the hightlights so far. It's been a lot of fun to collect players I'd heard of but never got to see (I first started into baseball in 1979).
I thought it might be kind of weird collecting a set in which my team was missing (Jays fan). As it turns out, it's almost more fun because I can get into everyone without guilt. Yanks? Red Sox? No probs.
Where I think these cards work the best is in the action shots:

The stars are fun, too. Getting some of these guys was like getting a Gordie Howe for the first time. A real sense of reverence.

The very first tee-ball set I had was a "Rod Carew Batting Champion":

This is probably the best of the bunch so far as I haven't been playing with the high numbers yet:

Nothing earth-shattering, but a fun start to an interesting (and probably extremely long-running) project. Good to be back in baseball again.
