Hummer to close after collapse of Chinese deal
Hummer to close after collapse of Chinese deal
General Motors' deal to sell its Hummer brand to a Chinese automaker fell through Wednesday and the company said it now plans to shut down the brand.
GM did not give any details about why the agreement to sell Hummer to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co. Ltd. could not be completed, saying only that it was disappointed it was unable to close the deal.
The large SUV brand is based on the Humvee military vehicle. It was always a niche vehicle but its image and sales were hit particularly hard by rising gasoline prices earlier this decade. Last year, GM only sold 9,046 Hummers, down 67% from 2008.
Thank ya Jesus! I loved the original Hummer H1, the military, hardcore off-roader released to the public, but they quit making those a few years ago. The H2 was an abomination and everything thereafter was even worse. Happy to see these monstrosities gone!

I used to like the H1 and H2, but never liked the H3, as it just looked like a regular SUV...I had a collection of the Hot Wheels hummers and pictures of hummers, but since I realized how bad the fuel consumption was, I started not to like them as much. Still cool to see one, for me, but I don't have the same view on them any longer.

The H1s were really sick, after that, it was all downhill. The H3s were a joke

Amen. And what about the pickup they were going to come out with? Or did they already?

I always thought the H2s were the best looking design of the line.

It's a shame primarily because the H1's were a eye-popping vehicle. I see a few of the military H1's on the highway near me because of the base that is less than an hour away. The H2's were pretty cool, but they didn't need to make the H3's.
