Buying Boxes Long after Release?
Hey, so I'm thinking of buying some older products like Panini Elite or Threads or UD SP Game Used, but considering these sets were released months ago, I'm hesitant. I feel like the odds of me getting a worth while patch/auto is small since they've been released for so long and are all gone.
so basically my question is this: in terms of hits, is it better to focus on buying more recent products, or do good hits come out of older sets that have been out a while as well?
thanks guys!

You still stand the same odds regardless when you buy it. The only way to increase your odds is by buying more cases/boxes.

The chances of a hit have nothing whatsoever to do with how new the product is. You can pull a boring Johnny Noname autograph from a product released a day ago and you can still pull an awesome Kobe Topps Chrome rookie refractor released back in 1996-97. Time doesn't affect luck and odds.

Only thing you need to pay attention to is if the product has redemptions. If so are they still valid or not.

Like stated above.....
Companies print and package these cards together all at the same time. The cards are collated, and packaged. They are then sent out to the distributors. So, there are cases still sitiing on distributors shelves from many years ago. So, not to sound like a broken record...but Odds are exactly the same, regardless of age.

I guess I'm a conspiracy theorist, but some products definitely seem frontloaded to me. In 2008 SPA Football, cases early on had more than the 9 patch autos advertised. A little later, people started getting shorted like crazy. Then you have the opposite happen with 07 UD Black Baseball and 07 UD Premier Baseball that seemed to get significantly better as time progressed.
On average, everything should be "on average." But there are trends with certain products IMO.

I bought an Elite case about 2 months ago after it had been out for a bit and did quite well other than my case hit was a Blake Griffin and days before he announced he was out for the year lol. I think it depends, however with 09-10 Panini Limited, I haven't seen many of the huge hits lately but saw many of the big Kobe auto's get pulled the first week including the 1/1.
Good luck on your next boxes!

yea like a couple people have said, beware of Old Products + Redemptions. Very little can come from them, and you're lucky if the company send you anything whatsoever.

Stated odds remain the same. If you are looking for hits and have the funds, buy a case. I'm a fan of the Panini Threads that you mentioned. Good Luck.
