Highly unusual card??

I won this Elway card for $12 on Ebay a while back. The guy who sold it to me said that he didn't get what he wanted out of it, but congratulated me on getting an awesome card. He claims that there was to be a serial # on the back, but there isn't. Plus the fact that its a "Raindrop" Prism card by Collector's Edge. Anybody know anything about this card or any other "Raindrop" Prism?

well, I looked at every card from 95 Collectors edge that Beckett had listed and the word "raindrop" never came up. In fact, I couldn't find a single card #3 that was John Elway from 95 Collectors Edge. I guess if it looks nice and you're happy with it for $12 then thats cool. I couldn't find any info on it though. Oh, and I think the "serial numbering" he was referring to was probably the "3 of 25"...funny when they do that. :)

I'm thinkin it was an unreleased card. A few years ago Collector's Edge filed for Bankruptcy and sold EVERYTHING they had. Every card ever made, presses, etc.

That's why when a card from CE is limited to, say, 1 you may see several of them. You can't trust anything from CE. Never pay too much for a CE card. If you're looking to make money off cards, don't buy CE no matter what Beckett says. Even if it books $300 in Beckett and you buy it for $50 you've been ripped off. If you're just looking to collect go ahead and buy but don't expect it to be rare even if it's /250 or anything.

envoy- that's probably a title that the seller came up with on his own. perhaps its not the actual title for the prism? anyway, you're right, there are NO #3's on beckett.com until Coll. Edge for that year.

kr580- thanks for your input. you're probably right..it probably was a CE sellout. the pictures don't do it justice because this is an absolutely beautiful cards..but, then again, I've seen "absolutely beautiful cards" only book for $.25.

As long as you're happy with it that's all that matters. Plus, it's an Elway that looks nice for $12... I wouldn't feel too bad about that. :)

You could always try writing a letter to Beckett and sending them a scan and asking what they think it is. Might even end up in the "Readers Write", that would be worth the $12 right there!

well, envoy i'm happy with it. in fact, beckett.com just responded to my email and want to see scans of this card and the emmitt smith card in question on another thread. i'll let you guys know what i find out. thanks for the help!!

The Elway is a 1995 Excalibur 22K gold Prism. They are a parallel of the Excalibur 22K Gold.
