How can you go by sale value with all the shillers, bad listings and variables on the bay .

If a card sold for $60 today , $110 last week , and on three other occasions $48, $115 , $72 what is the card worth ?

but the point is that people are saying that its a problem that beckett has such a wide range because its value can land anywhere in between. sell/market value is no different. at least with the beckett you know it hasnt been influenced by cheating and idiocy (shilling and listings).

the 60-110 becomes the "true book sell value" as of now then. that works. there will always be inconsistencies. nothing ever sells at a solid price so a range is always needed.

    See ...'s Items on eBay

I sold one of my Steve Nash autos at my last Phoenix show for $100. Why? Because it booked at $60-$120. The last one I saw online went for $55. Just as a sell value person would always argue why would I trade a card that ebay has at $55 for a card ebay has at $30 even if they book the same, I ask you why would I use a single source to price my cards instead of a guide that draws information from multiple sources? (And no, I don't think they are always awesome at what they do, but they are accurate enough on most stuff that I collect).

And using your reasoning, why the heck do auto dealers use Kelley Blue Book? I mean, they list the value of this car around $16,500. Obviously ebay tells us its only worth $11,000.

Ebay is a great resource to know if you had to move a card quickly just to get some $ what you could expect to get. It's also lower than I sell 75% of my stuff at (and the other 25% is when I find a bargain somewhere and simply want to make up paypal fast). If you have 90% of your collection listed in an ebay store, like I know some people do, then it makes sense to use that as your primary pricing. If you are a collector who doesn't mind hanging on to stuff and use trading as your primary source of acquiring cards, then it's not very useful at all. Unless, of course, you don't plan on collecting any current players nor anything in the offseason of a sport.

Just my input..... and yes, I only read these threads for pure entertainment, no one could come close to convincing me to use ebay to price my cards than I could convince a sell value guy he's a fool :-)

Nailed it , SV is to eratic and most guys look for the cards lowest selling point .

As soon as someone starts his hustle crap about how smart he is by watching every listing and th SV this and the SV that blah blah blah , i just delete and forget them .

Saying this BV gives you a ball park figure of what the cards sold for over a 6 -12 mth period and the rest of knowledge you grasp from being in this game it's not to hard, to base all you dealings on SV goodluck as a lot of guys are against that as there is to many variables as i have stated in the past.

I have watched the same card selling one with shipping for $5 the other $15 and guess what the one for $5 shipping sold for almost double does this mean know the card is half the value due to some guy charging more for shipping ?

    Just some variables:-

Bad listing ( not clear )
    Shipping costs
    Shilling
    Low feedback
    listed at bad finishing times

The list goes on , actually there are noobs in this hobby that pray on collectors with this garbage sale value by only looking and presenting the lowest sales of the specific card , as i stated these guys i just ignore goodluck trying to hustle someone else

Actually i will bid more when I already won an item from the same seller. I have extra buffer like $4 to boost the sell. But in the end, I only pay extra $1.

Exactly thats why to use the bay as a tool and the only tool for pricing you would have to be crazy .
If you want to know anything research is the best but not from one source use all sources to gain your value and knowledge.
Most people are going of the theory i will buy for nothing and sell for top dollar .

    Wishfull thinking

I see these Beckett sucks vs. ebay is great for pricing debate here at least once every two months haha, but the quoted response above is BY FAR one of the best and well stated argument. Great example too. Kudos to you Tyler.

I agree that for me also, Beckett is accurate enough on most of the stuff I collect, +1 for Beckett camp. =)

Here's the Classic Book Value Vs Sale Value discussion theres always going to be this battle of what is it really worth etc i agree with some when they say if you want to know what the value is of a certain card then sell it but just remember popularity sell's cards Basic Example....

Michael Jordan Game Used BV $100 Sells for $75
Carmelo Anthony Game Used BV $100 Sells for $35

Who is more popular....that's all i need to say.....
Collecting All Current Las Vegas Raiders, Carmelo Anthony, Ken Griffey Jr, Bo Jackson, Frank Thomas.
plus many more, Also any Legend or HOF raider players as well.
Just getting back into the Hobby so not much tradebait but have some stuff just let me know what your looking for and i will see what i have, No trade List Available yet but i am working on one.

Interesting discussion, that´s why i like this forum.

I confess i didn´t noticed immediately that there were 2 values, hi and lo, that makes more sense.
