Why Dan Hardy?
Anyone else annoyed that Dan Hardy gets at shot at GSP? He's not even ranked in the top 5 Welterweights by most people! Doesn't Josh Koscheck or Paulo Thiago deserve a chance first? Doesn't Jon Fitch (who gave Paulo Thiago his only loss and is ranked #2 by most experts) deserve a rematch?
Personally, I'm sick of Dana White and the UFC giving British fighters championship fights and other high level fights that they do NOT deserve.
Am I off the mark?

Nope, I don't think you are off the mark at all. No way Hardy deserves a title fight ... Look at his resume. He'll be destroyed by GSP. All Spike's hype isn't making Hardy the superman the UFC wants him to be. He'll lose Saturday, probably lose his next fight, then be out of the UFC for good. Bisping should have followed the same path, but UFC brass wants him in the org. Who knows what Dana is thinking?

I kinda' feel the same way with Mir. Don't get me wrong, he's very skilled and well-known but at the same time... Carwin was supposed to fight Lesnar before Lesnar got sick... why does he now have to fight for that same opportunity he was supposed to have in the first place. Also, Mir has already had a couple of title opportunities, not to mention he was the last interim champ. I don't see why this isn't a Cain Velasquez/Shane Carwin match... why should Mir keep getting all the shots, I guess it's because of the big rivalry with Lesnar.

The problem is, GSP already beat Fitch, Kos, Alves, and Hughes, so Hardy got the shot pretty much by default. He's got some of the best standup at 170, but so did Alves and GSP took him down with ease. I just don't see Hardy being able to keep this fight standing.
Paulo Thiago is a good up and comer, but he probably needs 1-2 more fights before he gets a title shot. I think the winner of the Kos/Daley fight gets the next shot, and I'd like to see Thiago fight either the winner of Fitch/Saunders or Alves.
The UFC's problem is that Penn, GSP, and Sliva are so dominant at their respective weight classes that there are no interesting fights for these guys. Does anyone really think Hardy, Edgar, or Maia has a chance of winning? I certainly don't and think all 3 of these title fights will be one-sided beatings. Would love to see Penn move to WW, GSP to MW, and Silva to LHW as there would be much more exciting fights for them in those weight classes.

He gets the shot because as much as we would like to think of MMA as a SPORT, it is still sports entertainment. It is and will always be about money. Hardy brings in a love me or hate me(but no in between) attitude, which is going to draw attention. Attention = $$$$ .
Does he deserve a title shot... not really, but honestly, I think the only type of fighter that is going to beat GSP is a fighter with great power in his hands. GSP will take the fight to the ground, but if he gets clipped by Hardy, the fight could be over. Hardy has much more power than Serra and we all saw how that played out. That said, I think GSP will grind out a solid decision similar to the Alves fight.
