How do you know when its time?
if your a super collector, how do you know when its time to sell the player you have been collecting you whole life?
wont you feel empty knowing they are all gone?

Well, since the cards of the players I collect are practically worthless, and would never even return 10% of what I spent on them, I don't see that time ever coming.

Ditto. Don't see me ever parting with my Frank Thomas Collection.

I could never do it with my Jimmie Johnson collection....although eBay sell values have nearly tripled on his stuff over the past two years.

I'm a fairly new collector, but my Brad Keselowski collection is increasing by the day. All those rookie bases I saved, might go for a pretty penny one day!

I'm curious why you ask? I'm battling that decision with myself on my Patrick Roy collection (over 1000 different cards not to mention the oddball items)... it's just got to the point where it's difficult to add anything new on a limited budget.
Plus, the Roy collection has lost some of it's fun... I'm now focusing more on my secondary wants (mainly Muller & Gilmour) and it's giving me a lot more joy.
So yeah.. I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts on that question too!
Best of luck,
Halo

my first collection is ernie banks. its tough to collect him in college becausae his stuff is worth quite a bit. ive sold off some peices and added some over the last couple years and it does feel weird to sell stuff off. ive decided that im not going to sell anymore of my banks stuff and just most likely wait until after college to add anything new other then some cheaper gu. right now i collect jon gilmore a prospect in the white sox system. i collect him more because he intrigues me but also because hes a prospect. i figure if he ever makes it to the big leagues and the cards double or triple what i bought them for i will sell and if not ill keep collecting.

I'd sell my Ritola collection if he was traded from the Wings or I REALLY needed the money. His stuff isn't worth much, so I'd return most, if not all the money I've spent on him.
