Wait for SP authentic to come out and get a box. 3 guaranteed auto's per box at least 1 of which will be a true rookie auto.

Hello, I'm fairly new to collecting hockey cards, well other than Fleer Ultra. I'd like to get my hands on a Hobby Box.

But I'm unsure which is best.
I think the 3 options would be:
    Artifacts
    Black Diamond
    and SPX

But I have no idea which I should get.

    Any help?

hey this is just my opinon but based on the way I collect (i feel a sense of accomplishment when completing base sets and enjoy good photographs that don't show the players just standing all the time) I would take Black diamond. There are decent hits per box, the rookie quad diamonds are nice and horizontal die cuts and horiz. variations are pretty cool to get. SPx has awesome inserts, but the base set is kind of lackluster even though they are foil cards, and lets face it, thats what you'll see the most. Artifacts is a good set, with nice inserts, pretty good jersey cards and stuff, good old school players. but with artifacts, again, the base cards are kind of boring and I personally don't like the columnar background.

Hey me again, is it better if I just buy single cards on ebay or a box?
I'm looking for cards which will be high in value, and I know you can pull some really expensive cards from boxes, but is it worth it?
    Like I grabbed these cards

You will always have more hit if you watch ebay unless you pull the big card. You get no base card either. But yes 99% of the time, you money spent well in auction can bring much more for the same amount a box cost.

No thrill of opening and no fun of expecting the big card we all want to pull. So if the wallet talk more then your heart then you will pick card one by one and is a other type of fun if you try to only get real deals. So it's a option many choose over buying boxe.

boxes are fun to see what you get. you can also get base card sets once in a while on ebay, but i find that less rewarding than buying packs or boxes, especially with higher end sets. buying singles off of ebay is a great way of adding to your collection, sometimes for pretty cheap if you are looking for a particular card! good luck!
