    Artifacts question

    In Beckett guide in says that a retail frozen artifact card is 4x to 1x for the retail card versus the hobby box card for inserts.

    For example if there was a bobby orr hobby box card FABO listed at $20 low and $40 high would it be right to assume the retail card FARBO would be listed at $80-$160. Just trying to figure this all out. Wanted to make sure my calculations were not wacky. If not how do you figure it out

    Hey there,

    Usually in the beckett guide it says something like:
    RETAIL: 1x to 4X HI

    To get the new LO value, you multiply the 1x by the HI value
    to get the new HI value, you multiply the 1x by the HI value

    Example:
    FABO LO 20 HI 40
    RETAIL: 1x to 4X HI
    Retail FABO -> LO = 40x1; HI=40x4

    So if the guide says FABO is LO 20 and HI 40, then, the retail should book LO 40 HI 160

    Just make sure that the multiplied says that. Because Beckett usually puts the low number first. So if you see 4x and 1x in that order, its likely that it was actually 0.4x and 1x which would make it LO 16 HI 40.

    Also, be sure that the multiplier is for the HI value. It could easily read:
    RETAIL: 1x to 4x LO

    Which would mean
    FABO LO 20 HI 40
    RETAIL: 1x to 4X LO
    Retail FABO -> LO = 20x1; HI=20x4

    Hope that this helps,
    Cheers,
    reoddai

    Are you sure it's not .4X-1X? Because I have a really hard time fathoming somebody dropping significant dollars on an unnumbered retail version parallel of a jersey card.

    4x

    in the guide I am pretty sure the retail goes 4x-1x

    I am assuming that the reasoning is that there are far less hits in the retail packs and blasters. I don't know. If anyone got the recent guide could they clarify.

    I don't think it is .4 hope my eyesight is not that bad

    Player collectors on the first one for sure - as I understand it Brind'Amour has a bit of a cult following.

    Beckett is full of errors.

    If it really says 4x to 1x then there are several explanations.

    That's either a backwards error (should read 1x to 4x)

    Or a typo error (should read 0.4x to 1x)

    Or it could just be plain wrong?

    A couple of years ago, Beckett had a 40X (or was it 25?) multiplier on the 07-08 Artifacts Blue parallel /25. For all I know, they still have that 25x multipler in print, despite publishing a different value on their online database and admitting that it was an error.

    Basically that means that a Tuukkaa Rask Blue RC /25 has a BV of 500. The S. Kostitsyn would have a BV of a cool 2000. There were several cases of these 500+ Bv cards selling on eBay for less than 10$ though.

    I won't tell you what your card books, that's up to you. Just remember that the Beckett book is a guide and not the holy bible of cards. It was made by humans and contains errors, omissions and older values are frequently left without current updates.

    All the best in your trading.

    Cheers,
    reoddai
