LOL...Did you know they were found guilty of counterfeiting over a half million cards? Did you also know there are court documents stating that McWilliam had plans to counerfeit more cards in the future?
If upper deck wasn't afraid they were going to get caught counterfeiting cards, why on earth would they think someone would catch them putting UN-authentic memorabilia pieces into their cards instead of the real deal?

So why would he do it again?

Why wouldn't he? Has he ever learned from his past mistakes? He no sooner lost a lawsuit case for counterfeiting cards, and he was back in court over a contract dispute with MLB, of which he was again in the wrong, and had to fork over a ton of money.
To answer your question...he's in trouble now, BIG TIME. He needs the money badly. Why not put fake, CHEAP memorabilia in cards and pass it off as the real deal in order to maximize the money he can make? I honestly believe he's been doing this for years. Since he's never "formally" been caught, why would he stop?

Because I would like to think he wouldn't do something so low to get money. Yea UD screwed up, and messed up big time, but I'd like to think that they have their act together.

I agree with you. I'd love to think they got their act together and learned from past mistakes, but I just don't see it happening. Not after their blatant disregard for the MLB licensing contract. That was no mistake. He did that on purpose, and he did it on the heals of losing the counterfeiting battle, of which in turn he needed money.
It's my opinion that McWilliam will do anything to make a buck, no matter how shady, even at the expense of his customers. It's sad, but I feel it's true.

UD = sketchy.
Richard McWilliam is an absolute crook and the bad karma is hitting him from all angles now.
It's easy to cheat your way to top but if you get caught.........oh my, how hard a fall is it?
I still feel bad for some of the folks at UD who are genuinely good people trying to do their job well after being handed a freakin' disaster to clean up.
Don't be so hard on some of the CS folks, I honestly believe that's actually one department trying to do right after years of blunders by other people in that area and the company.

ITG will get my money and devotion when they start making products i like. i've said it before but i'll buy any product i like regardless of the company slapped on the card. i'm not going to collect simply because they might be the only game in town. luckily i'm not a completionist in my collecting. i've picked up a few ITG things that caught my eye, like UD even, i've passed on most things that didnt'.
ITG had a license before and those designs back then haven't really struck me either so the "handcuffing" issue doesn't cut it for me. i certainly hope ITG only gets bigger and better. they serioulsy need to expand their lineup. they've got the jerseys and patches down great but....
-they've barely tried the foil approach to cards.
-how about some of the nice acetate - plexi type cards? glacial graphs, ice scripts, frozen in times, clearcut winners, the new shadowboxes, signature swatches, clearcut combos and especially the frozen foursomes, sweet shot ice signings....
-hard signed autos -- some but not very many
-embossed cards and die cut cards would be cool again
