The Exclusive Card License
Since NBA Properties decide to award an Exclusive Card License to Panini a few thoughts have rattled around in my mind on this topic. Since this was granted MLB Properties Has gone an Exclusive deal with Topps.
I am wondering was this a good or bad deal for collectors? We are at the end of the line for this product. Whether we purchase new products or we just collectors singles in the secondary market. so a few questions
1. Has the price of new product remained stable or risen after the deal was done?
2, Have Individual card value risen?
3. Has the amount of product decreased with only one manufacturer?

I like it. but since Jordan, Lebron and some others are signed exclusive to UD, I think the boxes will drop, and not much buying will be going on. Since people want Jordan and Lebron.. I dont know if they will sign with Panini when the contract is up. But i sure do hope so..
Thats what i think, but then again, Im swedish, and not that good in english. so I might have mixed up the questions lol.

My opinions...
1) I would say the deals are better now - prices are around the same, but there have been more autos in Panini products.
2) Don't know...Panini is brand new, so there isn't really anything to increase upon yet. As for older Topps and UD, I don't think there's been much of a change, but I don't know.
3) I wouldn't say so. This year had UD, Topps and Panini releasing product. Next year will probably be a different story though.

I don't think 1 company is the solution to the hobby itself. All the products are coming from the same group of people (same idea, same concept). If Panini or NBA only wants collectors to have Kobe Auto easier, eventually everything will drop so low. They have to make something collectable, not cheap price loaded GU/Auto into the market.
I hope they drop the concept with 4GU/Auto in 1 box. It is way too many "filter" players who can't even make into 2nd year roster. GU/Auto set should contain less than 30 people. And all 30 of them should be current all-stars or almost making into all-stars.

1) Price of new product has been stable (New Hobby Boxes)
2) Individual card value has decrease due to Panini mass production of patches, gu's, autos. But this has been a general trend for the hobby and not particularly Panini's fault though they do have the power to change it if they wish since they are the only one producing NBA cards.
3) Yes products will be less of course since you go from two companies to one.

I also think that there should be multiple companies with contracts.
Competition brings the price of products down, but then again there will be over production. But it will also increase creativity on designs.
It doesn't make sense having only one company at a time, nba can make so much more money distributing its license

Bad for the collector in terms of no competition which reduces the need for innovation, competitive pricing and quality control.
Good for the collector in that UD is a disaster of a company right now and they deserve to be out of the game.
