    Scam Alert! (Please Read!)

I found a job opening on craigslist a couple days ago for a sales position. I thought it sounded legit, so I emailed my resume. I received a call later from a man who wanted to set up an interview. We aggreed on a time, 10:00am the next day...

I showed up for my "interview" wearing the typeical outfit... Collared shirt and nice tie. Later the "manger" showed up in jeans that he was holding up at the waist. (Warning sign #1)

At this point the I started to wonder...

After he had me fill out some legit looking paper work, he said I could start today. I told him I had forgot my ssn card, and he said to just bring it Monday... (No one will hire you without geting a copy of your ssn card.) (Warning sign #2)

At this point I had not asked many questions and asked what the job would be involving...

He said it was "a company for people to call to recieve lower interest rate". (Waning sign #3) At this point I knew something was off, maybe not wrong but off...

Later a couple more employees showed up, and I was handed a script...

This is the entire script with no changes other than the bold I placed in...

"Good Afternoon this is ____ with account services, I see that you are responding getting your interest rates reduced is that correct? Ok, and verify your first and last name for the record please... thank you. Now ms./mr.___ due to your good payment history that you've been maintaining you've become eligible to recieve a lower interest rate on your current account... were you aware of that? And do you know what your current interest rates are or are you not for sure? Ok and if you were to estimate how much you have in over all credit card debt how much would you say that would be? And on which account would you say you currently use the most your visa or master card account... ok and is that account closed or over the limit to your knowledge? Ok now mr./ms. ____ what Im going to need you to do is verify you ____BankName___ account number starting with the (4visa,5mc,6011discover,3amx,) from left to right... thank you... now verify your zip code... ok thank you now for security purposes verify ONLY the last four of your social..Thank you.. now what im going to do now is place you on a short hold while I pull up your current standing.. give me one minute..ok...thanks.

Ok mr/ms____I was able to pull up your current account information... you r current balance is ____ doesthat sound about right?... ok and your last paymetn was posted of_____ on (date) your next payment wont be due until (date) of ____($)..

Now what im going to do now is transfer you over to my manager who i sgoing to explain in detail of the new changes that are going to be taking place.. it was a pleasure speaking to you, enjoy your savings and have a great daty... my manager will be with you shortly."

Once I saw this I asked my "manager"... So what do I say if they ask what company we are with?

    Account Services.

And how will I pull up there account information; do you have an account system.

"No just use the information that they gave you to pull up there account you will need to work fast, and you might have to ask for the phone number on the back of there card..."

I left at the next smoke break, and did not answer a single call.

And yes it has been reported to CRIMELINE!

Yea, this is definitely a scam. If it sounds fishy, then it's most likely is.

I'd avoid Craigslist entirely when it comes to job searching. I posted my resume there once and was inundated with about 30 spam scams a day for several months.

If you're looking for a job - I would check out monster.com. Sounds like some a couple people trying to get your identity for fraud.

I've never had to bring my SSN card to start a job.

sounds very odd. I probably wouldn't look on craigslist for a job either.
