Vezina Trophy Finalists: Debating the Winner
BY: Adam Gretz
We're bringing back the 2-on-1 this week to discuss the finalists for all of the NHL's major awards. Today, Adam Gretz and Bruce Ciskie debate the Vezina Trophy. The finalists are Buffalo's Ryan Miller, Phoenix's Ilya Bryzgalov and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur.
Adam Gretz: I think most people would look at this award and consider it the easiest one to pick this season. I mean, it has to be Ryan Miller, right?
Well, I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, he would definitely be a worthy winner -- and, frankly, l think he will -- because he's been absolutely fantastic this year, but I think in the end my vote would have gone for Ilya Bryzgalov. Actually, not only would I have voted for him for the Vezina, I probably would have cast a Hart Trophy for vote him, as well. A lot of good things have happened on the ice in Phoenix this year -- and they're still happening! -- and I think a lot of that success has to do with the job he's done in net. And just think: they picked him up for nothing.
