Game-Used Stick...What do you think is fair?

Hey guys, wasn't really sure where to post this but I need your opinions.
I've had a signed Game-Used Gary Roberts stick sitting in my garage for quite some time now and am now wanting to sell it but I have no idea what a fair price for something like this would be. A bit of background for ya: I got this stick back when Gary played for the Carolina Hurricanes. He gave this stick to me at a practice at a rink in Raleigh that they practiced at before the RBC Center was built. It's a solid wooden Hespeller stick, clearly game-used based on all the marks etc. and has his name printed onto the shaft and his number written on the tape near the top. No cracks or breaks whatsoever. Here's a picture of they type of stick:

That's about the only pic I could find of him using the same stick.

What do you guys think might be a fair price to ask for a piece like this? If I sell it of course I would add several pictures of the actual stick.

Probably worth more to you than anyone else. The same rules that apply to personally signed cards generally work for all memorabilia. Most serious buyers would have a hard time dropping a lot of cash without a COA and/or picture of you and the player.

I don't shop for game used sticks but even with all the paper work I can't see it going for more than 200 or so.

It might not apply here but when it comes to memorabilia, especially highly sought after players, the matter in which they are presented to potential buyers often dissected as well to determine authenticity. For instance you noted that it was "laying" around in your garage. Some collectors will interpret that as if you just found an old stick laying around and it could have been used by a player.

The other important thing to note is that while there probably isn't many Gary Roberts counterfeits out there it's often the players who more or less fly under the radar as far as collecting goes that often have counterfeit items in circulation. This is because the experts and even government in some cases are focusing on Gretzky, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordon memorabilia.

Basically a lot of factors drive down the price of memorabilia.

I understand what you're saying. I basically meant that this GU stick has been sitting on my hockey stick rack in my garage for quite some time and I'm just ready to move it as I don't know how to display it. This stick is definitely not a counterfeit as I think it would actually be pretty hard to counterfeit this particular stick seeings how I myself could only find one picture where Roberts used a stick exactly like this.
Anyways, I'm not expecting to turn a huge profit I'm just not sure what would be a fair price for this, I just want to move it to someone who will value it more than I do at this point.

I think that the only way you'll get more than $100 for it is to find another hardcore Roberts fan to deal it to. For comparisons sake, most of my gamer sticks were right around $150; Hossa, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Kessel, Samsonov, Rosa, and a few others, all at or under 150

Going to have to agree with Zinc on this one. Since Roberts isn't a sought after player, it probably won't go for any more than $100. You never know though, you can end up getting lucky and find somebody that really wants it and is willing to pay more than that for it.

What you can do is take a photo of the piece and have PSA-DNA authenticate the auto and stick for you. then you have a COA and that will bring the Value up.

I would keep it! It isn't everyday that you get a signed NHL players stick with no breaks, the memory of meeting Gary Roberts(No star, but a GREAT nhl player with a long career) is worth more then what you could get for it.

Thanks for the input guys! The main reason I want to sell it is because I have no real way of displaying it, I need money, and even though it is my only game-used item that was given to me, it doesn't really hold a lot of sentimental value to me anymore. I will always remember how I got it and remember the day I got it but it's a sacrifice I need to make right now. I've got to try and come up with $5K by August so I've gotta make some sacrifices.

I really don't see you getting more than $20-$30 for it. Looking on recently completed auctions, a lot of sticks with no COA have gone off with no bids at $9.99.
