Pierre quoted Detroit coach Mike Babcock — who coached Doughty at the Olympics — as saying today, “We just talked about this in our coaches’ office here this morning. He doesn’t play high-risk, and yet he makes great offensive plays. A lot of offensive D-men are high-risk. He’s not like that at all. He just sees it and knows it. … The other thing is that his body type is such that he’s heavy enough and thick enough, he’ll just bounce off. And he’s so evasive with his tight turn. It’s hard to get to him. And he’s great defensively. He doesn’t get wound up about anything; he’s as relaxed as they come. He just plays.”

SCUDERI: “I would love to throw it all on the goalies’ lap, but our lack of structure and discipline and team play gave them those chances. That cannot happen in the playoffs. You have to play disciplined. As boring as it might seem sometimes, you have to do it, because when you give up those chances, to the type of talent they have over there, it’s only a matter of time before it’s in the back of your net.”

BROWN: “Terry didn’t have to say anything after the game. At this point of the year, regardless of whether you lose 7-2 or 3-2, it’s not what we wanted. We didn’t have a lot of things tonight, but we can’t sit here and analyze or feel bad for ourselves or dwell on it. We have a game in two days, and if we win it we’re right back where we are right now. So that’s our attitude.”

Especially down in L.A., it seemed like everyone was trying to do the other guy's job, and you can't have that. We stayed in lanes, we worked harder, and we let Louie see the first shot, and he's usually going to make the save there.”

“When Pav is driven like that, it shows how useful he can be,” Alain Vigneault said.
