THEY SAID WHAT?????
MURRAY: “It does. Sure it does. I didn’t hear anything, but… I’ve been around long enough to see players that are going to celebrate their victory after a fight, and I don’t have anything against that. To me, it’s all dictated by the score of the game and how things are going in the game. When it is what it is, like last night, there’s a little bit more meaning interpreted by me than what he intended. Hey, if he apologized, then I apologize for calling him a clown.”
Wayne Simmonds said, “If you can’t get up for this, then you’re crazy. It’s do or die. This could potentially be the last game of our season, so we’ll come out scrapping and we’re going to leave it all out there on the ice, that’s for sure.”
Pierre quoted Detroit coach Mike Babcock — who coached Doughty at the Olympics — as saying today, “We just talked about this in our coaches’ office here this morning. He doesn’t play high-risk, and yet he makes great offensive plays. A lot of offensive D-men are high-risk. He’s not like that at all. He just sees it and knows it. … The other thing is that his body type is such that he’s heavy enough and thick enough, he’ll just bounce off. And he’s so evasive with his tight turn. It’s hard to get to him. And he’s great defensively. He doesn’t get wound up about anything; he’s as relaxed as they come. He just plays.”
(on the rising goals-against totals in this series…)
SCUDERI: “I would love to throw it all on the goalies’ lap, but our lack of structure and discipline and team play gave them those chances. That cannot happen in the playoffs. You have to play disciplined. As boring as it might seem sometimes, you have to do it, because when you give up those chances, to the type of talent they have over there, it’s only a matter of time before it’s in the back of your net.”
(on whether players talked after the game, or what Terry Murray said…)
BROWN: “Terry didn’t have to say anything after the game. At this point of the year, regardless of whether you lose 7-2 or 3-2, it’s not what we wanted. We didn’t have a lot of things tonight, but we can’t sit here and analyze or feel bad for ourselves or dwell on it. We have a game in two days, and if we win it we’re right back where we are right now. So that’s our attitude.”
------------------------------------------------------
"He's almost Canadian with the way he likes to chirp and go back and forth." -- C Henrik Sedin on new linemate Mikael Samuelsson, who has three goals and an assist and has sparked the Canucks to consecutive wins since being moved onto the top line with Henrik and twin brother Daniel.
"We finished there on a good note and put the puck in the net, and we started off good today so we had good feelings," said Samuelsson, who leads the playoffs with seven goals and also has nine points. "But we haven't won anything. It's the hardest game to win to finish someone off."
“Five on five hasn't been our problem. If our PK had been average, we would have been up more than 3-2. I just think we trusted each other more tonight. Especially down in L.A., it seemed like everyone was trying to do the other guy's job, and you can't have that. We stayed in lanes, we worked harder, and we let Louie see the first shot, and he's usually going to make the save there.”
“When Pav is driven like that, it shows how useful he can be,” Alain Vigneault said.
ONE LAST THOUGHT
"That could have been a 3-2 overtime loss or the loss we had. We've just got to let it go. It's one game. We still have opportunities to win this series. Whether it's a 3-2 loss or a 7-2 loss, it's definitely not what we wanted, but we've got to move forward." -- Kings captain Dustin Brown.
