Let The Collector Have His Say

We are now planning for the 10th Anniversary of Ultimate Memorabilia. I can't believe it was just ten years ago at the National that we announce the first edition of Ultimate Memorabilia.

Time flies when you are having fun.

Now its your chance to help create the 10th Anniversary Edition.

What insert ideas would you like to see return? What new ideas would you like to see us attempt to do.

I have always made cards for collectors so here is another chance to speak your mind as we are listening. All ideas will be considered.

By the way, thanks for the helping make Superlative Hockey Volume Two such a success, everyone at In The Game appreciates it.

Brian, first of all thank you for posting this, I think this is a tremendous idea on your part, almost a expansion on "Made to Order" program, but in a full set form it would seem.

    Wow, where to start.....................

    - The Jumbo 1/1's, those are far away the my favorite cards to date in the hobby. I realize putting a players image on the front would take away from the swatch size. Maybe take a little off the top of the swatch window so you can put the players head and shoulders above it? And how about corresponding team colors on the borders? Or maybe the opposite, reduce the bottom of the swatch window and have the player HARD sign it across a nice white area? I prefer blue pen as well, but that's me. Is there a reason you use black ink?

    - Tying into this theme a bit, more auto memorabilia, but not auto threads. Signed stick pieces, helmets, skates, gloves, all of that stuff. Although it's been done even doing number swatches, maybe some emblem pieces. Hard signed auto on what we all know to be AUTHENTIC game worn memorabilia or said player? Always a win.

Gonna have to think some more....................wow, this is going to be fun!

Always nice for the collectors to get a chance to have their say!

My favorite set from any Ultimate Memorabilia has got to be the "Battle of Québec" one. Having grown up in Québec and lived the Nordqiques-Canadiens rivalry, this set was a must for me and is still proudly displayed in a frame on the wall. What I would love to see is a set devoted to "La bagarre du Vendredi Saint" or the Good Friday Brawl. All Habs and Nords fan remember that game and it would be interesting to have a set on it.

As for a new set, correct me if I'm I'm wrong and it has already been done, but I would love to see a set called "The NHL by the numbers". This would consist of 1 player per number, the best to ever wear any number. For instance 4 would be Orr, 10 Lafleur, 33 Roy, 66 Lemieux etc...I think this would make for an awesome set to chase and it would be amazing as it would be like literally looking at the history of the NHL by the numbers.

Thanks for giving us a chance to have our say.

I would love to see more unconventional game-used pieces. Can't say I'm a fan of socks or pads or things of that ilk, but Pacific did a set of cards with little pieces of twine from All-Star game-used nets that are among my favorite. I think it'd be interested to see things like goal posts and helmets put into cards as well.

Also, as far as non-memorabilia inserts, I really like sketch cards with original art on them.

The first one that jumps to mind for me is something related to the Triple Gold Club. Guys who have won Olympic Gold, World Championship Gold, and the Stanley Cup. It's not a huge list of players, and there's some good names on there (Blake, Niedermayer, Pronger, Forsberg, Zetterberg, Sakic, Lidstrom, etc). Maybe put Mike Babcock in there too LOL.

Maybe include a piece of their national team's memorabilia, and a piece of their NHL team's in the card. I'd say make them #/3; but I want a chance to land a Pronger if it's made LOL.

I'd be interested in seeing anything that's autographed on the actual memorabilia too. Autographed stick piece, nameplate, number, swatch, or whatever. Or even a piece of a skate blade.

Could go for something revolving around the Hall of Fame induction classes. Put a piece of jersey of one of each of the four into the card (ie: Yzerman, Lucky Luc, Hull, and Leetch last year).

Wow. I wasn't even collecting 10 years ago, so I don't know what was included in the original set.

I do know that every so often, Ultimate has these nice 4 person swatch cards + pictures like the "CornerStones". I certainly wouldn't mind seeing those again.

Hopefully, the 10th is the best ever :)

    Cheers,

I would like to see in ITG Ultimate Memorabilia two new insert sets featuring:

    - "League Logos Autographed" cards, with full NHL Logos and hard signed autos.
    - "Playoffs Patches Autographed" cards, with pieces from Stanley Cup patches and an auto of the player.

A goalie card with a piece of: Helmet, pad, blocker, glove, skate, jersey, patch, and stick. Seriously this would be my dream card of basically any goalie out there. It would truly be one of the sickest cards ever made.

And a card of the best single player at each position creating the "All Life Team" if you will: LWer - Luc Robitaille. Center - Wayne Gretzky. RWer Gordie Howe. Defenseman - Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque. And in Goal - Patrick Roy. Any sort of card with all 6 of them would be just insane.

They can't do either of these because of licensing issues, particularly the NHL logo, that is the biggest no no of all.

That would be like Coke putting a Pepsi logo on their cans to help sales. I smell lawsuit.

They MIGHT be able to do something with a SC patch, maybe half of it or something, but not the whole logo.
