Record Crowd Expected for World Championship
By JEFF Z. KLEIN
A record crowd for a hockey game is expected for Friday’s contest between Germany and the United States, the opener of the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship tournament. Ticket sales for the match, at the Veltins-Arena soccer stadium in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, have reached 76,152, tournament organizers announced. That would exceed the current record for hockey, the 74,554 who attended the Michigan-Michigan State Cold War game played in East Lansing on Oct. 6, 2001.
