Occupy the Card Corps and GO VINTAGE

Hey Hey...I am suffering from a herniated disc so I'm in pain and a little crotchity today...so I thought I'd share some cynical thoughts.

I see alot of people wondering why their new SP, GU, AU, Jersey, BAT, Taco, Chinese...whatever cards don't get the money the Beckett says it should. I see people complaining about the state of the collecting hobby. I see people complaining about "Too Many" choices (which was always promoted as a good thing...pure Americana doncha know). I see people complaining about the price of packs of cards (or a card as what I understand some packs consist of).

I my friend....have an answer. DON"T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THEM!!!! Simple business..if they don't make money they will go out of business or the prices will come down.

Second answer....GO VINTAGE!! I have and I love it. With that said, I enjoy the history of the game, the personalities as we knew them (when we could relate to them), and the simplicity of design. AND the TRUE difficulty in finding some of them....not because they only printed 5 of the cards..but because of the test of time.

I have not bought a new product since 1993. I was able to trade of much of that stuff for vintage (thank God) and I directed my efforts to building sets and directing my challenge to completing complete sets of all the players from a given year. I'm now back to 1966 with my high grade complete sets. Those were fun challenges and a learning experience too.

So lets all jump on board the Vintage Train shall we?!!!? Woo Hoo, come on...lets go!!!! I need 1963's now!!!!

That is the nice thing about Vintage but I prefer to stick the the gu/autos of the HOF'ers my self because ANY of that stuff will never lose its value. It is a great way to go if you really want to make it an investment instead of a gamble

I am contemplating going vintage also. I still enjoy opening new packs and wondering whats gonna be in there. I don't think that will every go away, but there does seem to be so many new cards out there now. Out of the new cards I like collecting rookies and autos. I am not into the g/u and all the different inserts. I have noticed that the vintage in most card shops is shrinking at least in my area. I think trying to collect really nice vintage cards would be more of a challenge. A card from 1960 is 45 years old, thats a long time for a card to stay in great shape. But then in the end, its all about collecting and collecting what you like. I guess thats one of the great things about his hobby is that, you can collect both era cards and still have fun doing it.

GU and AU not losing their value? That may hold true for the HOF'ers but for the other players at least I think they sure will lose their value if things continue the way that they are. If anything its the vintage that wont lose their value but could do nothing but go up unless someone ran across a heck of a lot of it somewhere which I do not see happening. If a huge demand for vintage arises because of how this hobby has changed the past 10 years then that may cause vintage to rise a bit just as it should. This is why I have also thought about going to vintage or to the time before all these numbered cards come about or at least limit my collecting when it comes to the new stuff until it has already been out for a couple three years so that the prices will have already fallen (if I do get back into collecting again).
