I don't agree with what Cormier did in the hit at all, but I also don't agree with him being charged. Maybe i'm alone on this one, but I just don't think that's right.

Sorry but he is slime and deserves jail time. He hops the bench, cocks his elbow, and goes STRAIGHT for a persons head, causing serious injury and the guy to have convulsions on the ice. Scum. Slime. Pathetic loser. Cormier is trash and I hope he never makes it in this league.

I have no problem with how law agencies enforce but they have to have a standard. Can't let people attack folks but since they don't get injured you don't get charged. Also what about all the past instances in which players were not charged for similar attacks? That saying his attack is worse then past attacks (which I disagree with). Pretty soon we there will be no hitting at all in hockey to the detriment of the game in my eyes.

Let the leagues deal with it, and keep law enforcement out of it. I'm still of the mind set that I would have had no problem with the NHL banning Bertuzzi for life, but I objected to the cops being involved.

To anyone who says "if he did this on the street....." or "if this were in real life....." you're absolutely correct. But the fact is, this did not happen on the street, or in real life. Professional & Major Junior hockey have more in common with cartoons (or at least hour long dramas) than real life.

Junior hockey is a place where we pay $12 a ticket, to watch 16 year olds drop the gloves and fight for our amusement. They're encouraged to do it. And then one "crosses the line" so to speak, and we want him arrested?

Every single player that plays in the CHL, AHL, NHL, whatever..... they know there is a risk of this kind of thing happening. It comes with the territory.

I'm not saying what Cormier did was okay. It wasn't. It was a dirty hit. It should be dealt with by the league(s) though, not the law.

I can say the same thing about other "Star" athletes in other leagues. Does this now mean we should point the finger at Roger Clemens and pitchers who have INTENT to throw at a batters head?

SAME thing here. Why not charge Football players who intentionally take out players knees? SAME THING.

    This is utter crap.

If you do it to one sport ALL sports should be affected.

I disagree with that statement. Every professional hockey player should not expect someone coming off the bench and elbowing them in the head when they do not have the puck. The risk a player faces is being injuried during the normal course of play. What Courmier did I would not call hockey.
I hope that the lengthy suspension of Courmier sent a strong message throughout junior hockey that this kind of conduct will not be tollerated. Dave Branch has done a great job at cleaning up the major junior leagues, and put the emphasis on playing hockey instead of thuggery!!!

    Two things to say here.

One, David Branch had nothing to do with Cormier's suspension. He has nothing to do with the QMJHL. He's the boss of the OHL, not Major Junior. I do agree though with the point. He's done a great job cleaning up the OHL, and laying the hammer down on players when appropriate.

But how could you suggest that players should not expect something like this from happening? I wouldn't call Cormier's actions 'hockey' either, but they're consistent with the goon tactics that have been employed by hockey players for years.

While I can't really back this up, I have serious doubts that any current NHLer has gone through their NHL / Minors / Junior career without being run from behind into the boards. This stuff happens in virtually every game, to any player.

Is it right? No. Again.... I'm not saying this is okay. Longer suspension needed, and this stuff has to be taken out of the game.

But to suggest that criminal charges be laid, I don't agree. That's like someone working at a gas station, and then wanting to charge the company because they inhaled too many gas fumes.

I disagree with that statement. Every professional hockey player should not expect someone coming off the bench and elbowing them in the head when they do not have the puck. The risk a player faces is being injuried during the normal course of play. What Courmier did I would not call hockey.
