Essentially, the ITG products have a different player selection, no rookies and AMAZING game used stuff. I was not huge on ITG at first but since picking up a few boxes of Between the Pipes, I'm sold.

It depends of what you collect. I personnally collect unique 1/1 serial numbered cards. The main point is the nicest and most valuable cards of an active (or recenly retired player like Roy, Messier, Gretzky, Lemieux, etc.) are produced by UD. Very few ITG cards are selling over $1000, while it is the case for a lot of UD cards. So why paying $150 for a pack of ITG cards when the secondary market doesn't pay for the majority of ITG cards? It is a big gamble, but for UD too considering they include a lot of noname active players in their products. The best ITG 1/1 cards are not hand signed by athletes, so a major issue for a lot of high-end collectors preferring the UD 1/1 hard signed cards. However ITG can provide cards that UD won't do, like from their Made To Order program, so as a collector I take the best from UD, and the best from ITG for my collection. ITG's customer service is flawless.

I used to be a big Upper Deck supporter but I have since made the switch to ITG and haven't looked back. Besides having the best memorabilia cards on the market their customer service is second to none and designs are improving each year. Considering ITG has a staff of twelve people (thirteen if you count Dr. Price) it is amazing they can produce the products they do, and release them ON TIME.
When I was at the Expo a few weeks ago I had the chance to meet and chat with Dr. Price and some of his staff, you'd be hard pressed to find a group of people more passionate about the hobby. I was able to pick up and pull some amazing cards for my collection and discuss them face-to-face with the president of the company. Can anybody say they've had the same experience with Upper Deck?

ITG > UD
Plain and simple. They know what collectors want b/c they actually care to find out.

So why most collectors don't pay for the majority of ITG cards? See the completed items on eBay, it speak by itself. People don't vote with their wallet! Why?????Last edited by roy.the.greatest; 05-15-2010 at 11:00 AM.

I think ALOT of it has to do that they are not licensed. I do know a HUGE amount of people who have switched to ITG, that used to spend and collect alot of higher end cards from UD. I haven't been a huge supporter of ITG as I mainly collect rookies but I'm definitely starting to swing to the good (ITG) side!!!!
It's NOT always about money JF....
People definitely vote with their wallet but it's not the most important thing for most when they are collecting. There's collecting and there investing in this hobby. Most people's pc's on here are priceless and don't have a monetary value as a few members here have a collection values at $1000 but to them it's the fact that they spent their time chasing the cards they liked and added them to their pc.
I collect what I like and don't really care what it costs me. I chase the rookies from every year with great patches but with cards like the Super Pads, Super Gloves, The 1/1 cards with the Emblems, Gloves, Numbers, etc and the FACT that they are all GAME WORN really makes it easy for me to second guess my spending habits with UD and switch over to itg. I am not a fan of the fact that UD is getting away with photo shoot jerseys in their rookies......
Have you seen the 1/1 Howe glove that was on eBay, the Tavares's that you and Mark have in your pc's? Those are the most AMAZING cards I have ever seen......

Personnally, I enjoy that ITG produces cards of other teams than NHL teams. I think it can give us a good hint of who is going to be the next NHL All Star. Also, the ITG cards might have a slightly worse design than UD, but their custom support is WAY better than UD.

As a high end baseball collector newly converted to hockey, I must say that it was the ITG UM9 1/1 emblems/tags/gloves that won me over. Love UD The Cup, but those 1/1 UM9 and Superlative cards are extraordinary. So I'll continue to chase them!

For me nothing beats ITG. Id o have UD in my collection but for my PC ITG is the way to go. I collect hofers and the HOF GU available in ITG products is simply superb. If your ambition is to own a piece of Vezina or Benedict pad or glove, ITG is for you.
