Something I have discovered
I like to get autographs after the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankee games and have had a wide variety of experiences with different baseballs. I have found that pens work best on ROLMB as most of you know. However, I have also noticed pens bleed into balls BADLY that are not ROLMB with the exception of Trump Signature Baseballs. However, I have noticed that a thicker sharpie holds well on those cheaper official league balls and logo baseballs they sell at the ball park. I have a Phil Hughes baseball signed in sharpie from 2007 that still looks amazing as well as an Andy Phillips/Phil Hughes SWB Yankee logo ball signed in sharpie.
Obviously there will be some out there who disagree but this is just my observation from personal experience.I collect NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, NY Knicks, and NJ Nets. I am willing to trade. PM me if you have any cards signed by players from these teams.
Working on collecting all living New York Giants (football) and New York Yankees. The question is which team drives me nuts first!!!

a fine point sharpie? the thicker sharpies don't make the sig look so clear, not as crisp. .......got a picture.

Heres my experience. My grandparents went to florida every summer, in time for baseball ST. One summer they came back with a personalized auto'd ball from Tommy Lasorda, dated 1991. It was a cheap ball and sharpie and to this day the auto looks like I got it yesterday. Fast forward to 2001-2002, I was in Fl visiting some friends, went to a Devil Rays game and got some auto's on a cheap ball with sharpie and the autos have faded to purple, one of the autos was Wade Boggs... so maybe it just depends on the material the ball is made of.
I will be bringing 3 ROMLB's and a blue ballpoint pen to the Yanks game on thursday. Ill let everyone know how I make out.

It was a normal sharpie not one of the fine point ones. The signatures look great and pop out amongst all of the regular pen autographs. My fiancée just got Josh Schmidt on a ball in blue sharpie and it looks fine. Maybe it does depend on the ball material but I have had more problems with pens than sharpies. My Bob Gibson is fading away and I paid good money to get him to sign it. My Shelley Duncan has just about disappeared as well. Those were regular bic pens on ROMLB.

I decided to get the specifics about ink and balls that I have signed.
The Tommy Lasorda auto which was signed in 1991 was done with a sharpie on a cheap rubber T-Ball... looks like it was signed yesterday.
The Boggs/Rays ball is a Devil Rays team ball which says Rawlings with the MLB stamp and commish stamp on it (romlb???) and it appears the ball was signed with a pen but I cant tell which color because it faded to purple. That ball was signed in 2001. I cannot remember what I used to have them sign with. I will post pics later maybe someone can figure it out..,
Both balls have been and are out of the sun light.
So now I am up in the air again about what to get auto's with tomorrow.
