Carmelo, Nuggets discussing extension
The Nuggets and representatives for Carmelo Anthony have scheduled a face-to-face negotiating session with hopes of agreeing to a three-year contract extension, Ken Berger of CBS Sports is reporting.
Without an extension, Anthony will hit the free agent market in 2011.
Anthony is free to negotiate an extension with Denver prior to the beginning of free agency on July 1.

Anthony was dumb to extend his contract in the first place, when Lebron and Wade advised him not to, had he been a free agent this year he would have made much more money, due to the frenzy as teams dumped alot and have alot to spend now.
Although it will be a killer July, Anthony would have been the icing on the cake

I think he was smart. Why compete against Lebron and Wade for the dollars out there. He will be the most sought after FA next summer after Lebron and Wade have signed for big contracts. I think he would be crazy to extend the second time around though.

Nope, think about it. Almost every team dumped to clear cap space. Obviously there can only one team that gets Lebron, one that gets Wade and Carmelo would have been a second or third pick definately.
So he would have gotten MUCHO money, plus a chance to play on a team with a chance at a championship. Right now the Nuggets are far from that, Billups is aging and its showing and Martin is injured for life.

If denver want to keep him they need to bring in some better players to secure Melo for the long term, the team is far from a contender.
