96-97 UD Hart Hopefuls
hi guys, i just received gold version of 96-97 UD Hart Hopefuls

but i'm not sure whether is it error card or not.
they might have been individualy numbered, not just marked "/100" like this one..

so if anyone has also a gold version, please let me know whats on the back of yours.
(btw i dont have the silver version yet, but on the back of the bronze one it just says "one of 5000" - that should be ok)

I had a same card as you few years ago, but Joe Sakic... I don't even remember if I still have it (or sell/trade it). I will try to find the scan.

Normally they are hand printed like my Jagr, and the silvers are actually true serial #'d like the Kariya I have.

And as for all the bronzes they are like your. 1 of 5000.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

Very nice Forsberg!
If all golds were actually hand numbered, it's easy to imagine that this card maybe stuck to another and avoided getting a number. Otherwise, I would guess that this is a UD replacement that somehow slipped out on the market without the number, or possibly a sample from UD handed out to various media sources such as Beckett. I remember seeing sample pictures of (numbered) cards in older Beckett mags and they usually were not numbered but something like sample/5000, xxxx/5000 or unnumbered such as in this case.Check out my collection of game worn jerseys: Hidden Content

No, GOLDs are machine numbered out of 100. I had a Roy and a Brodeur, I have a Forsberg and it is machine numbered. I saw few copies unnumbered, but first time I see this kind of "hand numbered" like your Jagr.

See a picture I found by googling on internet:

My GOLD cards numbered were exactly like this (machine numbered) out of 100.Last edited by roy.the.greatest; 05-26-2010 at 11:30 AM.

Wow a whole another problem of older cards when folks get their hands on unnumbered cards. Thanks for sharing I love reading stuff like this on the older parallels.

Toploaders 60 point $4, 100 point $7, 140 point $4, 190 point $3, 240 point $3
Soft Sleeves Standard $1 and Thick $1.50
TOP-LOADER 3X4,100 CT PENNY SLEEVES INCLUDED $11

I'm wondering if this isn't similar to the 01-02 SPX. I seem to recall in 01-02 SPX Upper Deck made extra copies of the rookies for replacements. If you got a damaged card, you would send it in and they would send the replacement but it was hand numbered the same as the one you sent in.

thanks for your replies guys! i was waiting for answer from the seller. he said they have found these cards in some old factory-sealed boxes
roy: where did you find that Brodeur? seems like my google is broken..
anyway, it looks like my card is some sort of mistake after all.
feel free to upload also scans with your roy & forsberg. if you find them
goose: where did you get this Jagr? according to the other scans it really seems like someone did this numbering by himself..
i just wonder why would he number it 14 not 68
ohlund: any chance you still have those becketts? i'm always interested in some rare parallels.
until now i've never even heard of unnumbered promos or "xxxx/5000" cards!
promo/5000

this is 96-97 donruss leaf - leather & laces
(the front side is identical)

oh and i found another one. this is promo /2500
(96-97 donruss leaf limited - bash the boards)

funny i have the promo version but still miss the regular oneLast edited by forsbic; 09-13-2010 at 11:26 PM.

to be honest i'm not a big fan of UD (well at least the new management, i love the old stuff though) so i had no idea they did something like damaged-card replacement. do you know if it was only 01-02 spx series or.. does this still work like this?Last edited by forsbic; 06-02-2010 at 04:45 PM.
