    Lakers don't want to pay Phil Jackson during potential lockout

    Sam Amico of NBA.com writes that the Lakers are worried about giving coach Phil Jackson a long-term contract because they believe a lockout is looming.

    It was reported last week that Jackson would likely have to take a pay cut to remain with Los Angeles.

    Amico also writes that the Lakers want to eventually replace Jackson with Brian Shaw.

    I suppose that kind of makes sense. Why pay a guy $12 million a year to do nothing? Although if they really believe a lockout is impending, they'll be saving a lot of money not paying player salaries so I don't see why you would let the best coach in the game walk.
