Hate being outbid
Who else have been on a bidding war on eBay, and how much over did you pay because you didn't want to be defeated?

I always say, if you can stop yourself from over paying, it will reward you in the long run.
Example: Got a Ritola card /10 for $50. The same card, but /25, went for $45. I didn't bid on it, and was able to get that card for more than half of that, about 3 months later.

This is where it's at. Plus, there will almost always be a new card listed tomorrow that you will want.

I also try to snipe as much as possible. Got it down pretty well now, I lose out on a lot of cards this way, but it definitely help keeps my spending under control as well, it also helps me get many "steals" from the ebay.
I did however overpay once for a Ron Harper GU from Studio recently. The item just came out and I had to have it for my Bulls collection since there aren't many of his GU's out there. I paid around $21, of course now it sells for like $4. Oh well, it happens. . .

If the card is not 1/1 or super super rare, I wouldn't bother to go into bid war. In most cases, a card that sells higher than a usual price will appear again within a day or two. Most sellers think this is the "hot" items, "must sell now" theory. And 2nd card will be WAY cheaper.
