If you go on some local markets (example: Montreal), Toews is difficult to sell. I continue to see the same cards of Toews available in showcases of dealers months after months, unsold. Great player on the ice, but still difficult to sell for strong prices. Of course I guess in the Chicago area he's probably selling well.

The playoffs have helped, but it's not like he's some unknown who is just on a hot streak. He was the best player on Team Canada during the Olympics, and I think there are only a handful of forwards in the league that I'd rather have on my team.

I think Toews' early card values were hurt by the fact that he didn't play junior hockey in Canada - we just don't get to see or hear as much about a guy playing in North Dakota as we would about a guy playing in Windsor or Saskatoon, and without that hype you don't see overvalued cards.

I'd guess that the values won't cool off all that much. I believe that they're finally catching up to how good he is.....but of course I also say this as someone who just laid out a fair bit of cash for a nice Toews card. :)

#3 overall pick, World Junior Championship shootout hero....Toews got a lot of press in his early days but you are correct, not as much as the guy that went one spot ahead of him, Jordan Staal.

Wow, that shootout - I don't like deciding games that way, but for a shootout that was about as good as it gets.
