RBR Crew Chief Swap
Red Bull Racing Team officials announced Wednesday the swap of crew chiefs and supporting personnel between the Nos. 82 and 83 cars, effective immediately.
"Due to the circumstances of our current situation, we have an opportunity to experiment with different personnel combinations," said Jay Frye, Red Bull Racing general manager and vice President.
I think this is a good move as listening to Speed/Elledge's scanner on race day I never felt or heard any chemistry between them. While neither are big talkers on the radio, Elledge isn't much of a leader as far as I can tell. Listening to Letart/Gordon is usually different or Kanus/Johnson for that matter. The CC's are always giving suggestions of what they can do on the track until they can work on it next pit stop. Usually when Speed talks about the car Elledge would remain silent and just continue spouting out lap times. Hopefully Pemberton can be more of a leader that I think Speed needs and a leader to help him continue his transition to Stock Cars.

Interesting. I hope they switch back next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. While the situation is bad for your driver (BV) it may prove to be a good one for mine as it looks like they will be focusing more on making SS faster while Casey fills in (and they can reunite Jimmy/Casey).

I'm sure they will. I think this is just a chance for Speed to get a better crew chief and they obviously don't plan on keeping Mears on board, so may as well put the better of the two of the crew chiefs with the driver that will be there next year

Haha, I saw it too... but he also mentioned that he didn't have a problem with JE but that everyone seemed more excited (sometimes change itself can trigger more success)

I don't know much history on either CC. But I'm not sure about them not having Mears... seems like a win win not a win lose as they are pairing Mears with a CC that he's been with in the past so... again... I think win/win

This is, what, Casey's 29th crew chief of his career?
And people wonder why he's never panned out to a top-tier driver. You need the same crew chief for more than a few weeks at a time.
On the bright side, Elledge is the only CC Casey's ever been with for more than a full year....and he was a top-15 points driver with him back at Ganassi. Hopefully this will be a good thing to help Casey try and find a ride for 2011.
