    Cool Stats

I'm on baseball reference at work and I'm looking at a cool stat. It's individual pitcher vs individual batter. What I'm trying to find is the most at bats between batter vs pitcher without a base hit. For instance Mike Mussina faced Denny Hocking 17 times over the course of their careers and Hocking failed to get a single hit. (that's the most I've found so far...I'm sure there's a better one out there)

Also looking for batters owning pitchers. Here's a cool stat J.R. Towles has faced Pedro Martinez twice and hit home runs off him both at bats! lol

Just found a better one John Smoltz faced Dwight Smith 19 times and Dwight failed to get a hit all 19 times.

yea, that's a large sample of at bats as well. So it's not like Maggs is just getting lucky. He must see the ball well out of Baker's hand or something.

One of my favorites was Delgado v. Moyer. 32-82 with 8 HRs. 1.249 OPS. And some managers still sat him because it was a lefty-lefty matchup.

Go to baseball-reference.com and look up any pitcher or batter you want. For pitchers, you will see an option "vs. Batter" under the "Standard Pitching" header. This will give you a long list of batters and how they did against the pitcher. For batters, it's pretty much the same way, just "vs. Pitcher" instead.

For example, this is Tom Glavine's stats against other batters. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...i?n1=glavito02

Also, so far the longest streak I've found is 26. Ray Durham just couldn't get a hit off of Mariano Rivera...

Haven't topped that yet...found some interesting ones though.

Pete Rose was 0-11 against Bruce Dal Canton
Jim Edmonds is 0-16 against Darren Oliver but Jason Giambi is 23-37 wow!

Troy Glaus 0-19 against Jeff Nelson. I remember Glaus mentioning that he was the one pitcher he could never hit on during an interview once...I guess he was right, lol.

Ichiro is 30-74 against Kevin Millwood. More ownage, lol.

Ah, found a good one. Tim Salmon is 0-22 against Woody Williams. Still not topping yours bud, but I'm getting there.
