2004 Finite HG question
While looking at the back of some of my rookies today i noticed something odd, the serial numbering on some of the cards is gold foil on some and silver on others. Has anyone heard anything about this?
Thanks,
Ryan

I was gonna ask the same thing too. Is there any difference in value or did they just run out of gold in the stamping machine?

Ive been discussing this with several people in the hobby and the only thing we can come up with (and I better be wrong on this) is that Upper Deck made 275 rookies and stamped them gold and 275 rookies stamped in silver. Thus actually making 550 of each rookie card. I have a letter sent to Upper Deck and to Beckett hopefully I can have more information on this soon. Upper Deck is probally greddy enough to do this and consider them 2 different cards.
I hope your idea is closer to the truth then mine.

Ok just a little update here, after I confirmed someone else had the same question I decided to contact Upper Deck via phone.
First off let me say its impressive that while Upper deck doesnt respond to emails well, they do get you on the phone with someone quickly. I waited on hold less than 5 minutes, then I had to be transfered to 4 people before I got some help. All in all it only took me 15 to 20 minutes to get ahold of a knowledgable person. Which impressed me because I figured Id have to waist half the day getting the run around. I now have a good email address to an individual instead of the generic customer support addy.
My contact at Upper decks name was Will, he claims theres no information in his database about anything other than Gold stamping on the /275 rookies. He says the Radiance parallell /15 called for silver stamping with all the other rookies catching gold foil. He asked for scans of the cards as soon as I could get them to him. He said there may be a retail version he would have to check, I told him to my knowledge there were no retail packs of Finite issued in any year much less 04.
I told him if Upper Deck issued /275 in silver and /275 in gold that it was borderline False advertising being that there would be 550 instead of 275 as you cant really call a different color serial number a parallell. He told me he was sure that was not the case or else he would have the info, again as far as he knows there is only supposed to be gold stamping.
I will keep you updated as to this situation as soon as I have more answers. Im going to contact all the people who have posted box breaks to see if I can gather more info. RayNY could you send me a list of what Finite rookies you have and include serial # and foil stamping color please?
Thanks,
-Ryan

Intresting Update, so far I know of 200+ rookies about equal silver and gold but the intresting fact is so far all golds are cards #s 101/200 with cards #'s 201 to 265 all being silver. I havent come across anyone with cards numbers 266 through 278 yet these being #d /99.
But I did have a guy email me claiming to have a Winslow Jr 229/275 in silver foil, I have 229/275 in gold.....this is the first instance of 2 same serial numbers but this may just be hype Im awaiting a scan of his. I personally dont know the guy he got my email from another trade forum so I dont exactly beleive this till i see it.
Thanks

#198 (052/275)
#199 (129/275)
All with gold-foil stamping. Also have a Radiance Parallel of #225 (#14/15) stamped in silver foil.
