crazy ebay stories lets hear them
i know we all have some great ebay stories wether they be good experiences or terrible ones. maybe someone came up with a crazy excuse to not pay for you, or someone intentionally damaged cards for a refund or something along those lines. lets here your crazy ebay stories. I got this idea from the "lets hear your epic fail" thread on the baseball boards. so lets hear your best ebay story. I will start. i dont have any real crazy ones but there are some situations that made me smile when thinking about them
one most recently was a card i sold last week. I waited paitently for payment. I finally recieved payment 1 week after the auction ended with a note asking me to mail the card out ASAP. I just looked at the note and smiled at the fact that the buyer didnt feel the need to be be prompt with payment but expects me to mail out right away.
the best excuse ive heard for not paying was "my house burned down".

My story is not too crazy but lucky. I bought a lot of 50 Arod rookies once for $100. The seller had some of the cards listed as 1995. All were actually from 1994 including 3 of the 1994 SP RCs, 3 Coll choice Silver Signature, over 25 or so regular collector's choice, 10 or so UD rookies (including a few electric diamond parallels). There was also the Sportlics Starflics insert and a couple base cards. I believe the rest were Classic inserts and base. The best card in the lot was one of the Collector's Choice cards ended up being one of the rare errors with white lettering on front with silver signature. I had it graded and it got an 8.5. One of them also was the white "A" on back error. Not bad for $100. The seller mostly sold coins so I guess he didn't know what he had and no one else bid on it. I knew a few of the cards he listed was actually from 1994, but his listing wasn't very detailed so I took a big chance and and came out on top on that purchase.

I bid on a card at best offer price and seller denied my offers of say $35 and wanted $45 but when this person went to put it on auction it sold for $20.50.

I actually have a nice ebay story. I collect Ryan Doumit cards and over the Christmas break last year there was a lot of 2 2009 Topps Unique Jumbo Patches of his that sold. I don't have internet access where I go so never even saw these listed.
While doing a google search for these in Feb the feedback page of the seller was brought up and I could see who the buyer was. I don't know what Ebays terms of service are, but I decided it couldn't hurt to contact the buyer and ask that if he ever wanted to sell those or trade for them I would be very interested.
He wrote back and asked me a bunch of questions about why I wanted them, why I collected Doumit, and do I sell a bunch of cards, etc. I have never sold a card and explained why I collect him and he wound up GIVING me the cards for absolutely nothing. These are two stunning looking patches and I just couldn't believe it. I never even implied that I wanted them for free because they did go for a good amount of money. He said that he bought them bc of how good they looked, but that they would be more appreciated by a true player collector of his.
I did send him a yankee auto book because I couldn't let his generosity go unrewarded. But never once did he ask for anything in return. I mean I had to beg him to tell me who is favorite player or team was so that I could return the favor. So even though this thread will be filled with stories of scammers, and shady deals there are some genuine good people still out there that like to help fellow collectors that aren't in it all for money.

My first Ebay experience was an MJ Fleer RC. I won it for $230ish from a vendor with a FB rating of '0'. Yeah I know, I know! Anyways, I bought a money order and sent out the funds. About a week later the card came in. Impeccable corners, perfect centering! What a steal!!
Then I did a bit of research on it. Oh-oh!
Anyways, I sent a note to the vendor stating that the card was a fake. He replied that he didn't know that but to send the card back and he would refund me. I said, send the funds back and I would send the card back. I waited a couple of weeks and no refund. I contacted him again - no reply. I then did a bit of research looking up the address that I mailed the money order to. It seemed that he was a student at the University of Western Ontario. I looked him up in the school directory and emailed him there. No reply! So I typed out a letter addressed to members of the school administration calling out the perp as a thief and how he had swindled me. I then sent it to him stating that no refund and this letter would get sent to ALL the school department heads and the dean. NOW, he replies! He says he'll send back the money. A week later I get a check for $200! I emailed back that there was still $30 missing. Meanwhile I cashed the check - no problem there. He replied that he would have the balance in a week. I waited 2 weeks, still nothing. I tried emailing him again - no response. I gave him the weekend to reply with an answer. Monday came and still no contact. Sooooo I hit send on the letter to the school! The next day I got a call from the head of security at the school. Someone had sent my letter to him. He asked for our correspondance. I sent it to him. I guess he contacted the perp. The vendor emailed me about why I had to send the letter. I told him that I had given him enough chances to fix it and he didn't. A week later, I got the balance in the mail.

This is something unrelated to cards, but I bought a motherboard off of eBay. It was dead on arrival, I emailed them saying it was broken. Then I mailed it back (cost me $20 to mail it) and still didn't get anything. I have emailed them since, and have notified eBay but no reply from anyone.
