An idea for a possible UD release?
Hey, was sorta thinkin about different products I'd like to see from UD
My idea is quite simple, take what they did with the Montreal Centennial Hockey Set and create other teams with LOTS of history. (ex: Maple Leafs, Black Hawks, Bruins, Detroit etc etc..)
Montreal Centennial sucks now because only retail boxes available!
In terms of the style of cards, I would keep it kinda similar to what they did with Centennial.
What do you guys think?

A bit like Superlative Franchise? I collect 1/1 cards of Montreal goalies, and UD Centennial didn't deliver something for my collection. Nice to build a base set, but it was far from a perfect product. If Centennial would fit some of the best insert cards made in The Cup or Ultimate Collection (but regarding only 1 team), it would be a heck of a product.

@Jonesr: Yea, that would be a great idea
@roy.the.greatest: yea, very similar to superlative franchise, but please don't let it be similar in price! :( (300 a box yikes!)

I'm not a Habs fan (playoff bandwagon not included), but have a lot of respect for that franchise. I loved the Centennial set. Broke a couple of hobby boxes.... wish I'd cracked more. Built a set 1-300, didn't really collect anything else out of it.
Other teams though? Nobody's history even comes close to the Habs. I'm sorry but even the other Origional Six teams don't have nearly the number of all time greats that Montreal does.
I know I'd love to buy and all-Oilers product, but I don't think anyone but Montreal works for a set like that.
The only other wild card there is the Leafs. Despite how brutal the franchise has been over the years.... there's a lot of collectors out there. They might be big enough to drive sales of a product like that, but I don't think it would have the same mass appeal that Montreal did.

The Leafs franchise was brutal, but it also reflects the players that composed this team through the decades. When Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour are ones of the top sellers in the current hobby market, we have a problem to build a strong product only related to the Toronto Maple Leafs history (no way comparable to names that played for Montreal). I doubt a company like UD or Panini would take the risk.

thanks guys for the comments, I know what you guys mean, didn't think outside the box.
I guess in terms of allstar players, detroit and boston would work? strictly referring to bobby orr / gordie howe.
@reoddai, hah I didn't even know ITG did that, (provided that I havent looked at ITG really. just UD for the most part)

I got an idea for a set with a cool subset..
Game winners. Basically the set would be a big one because you would have a card for every game winner in the season. Then the short prints you can have from the playoffs.
The subset or parallel would be a piece of the puck or puck autoed.
think about it.. pulling a Patrick Kane Stanley Cup winning goal card with a piece of the puck used to score the game winning goal and is autographed. You could have different levels as you could have it broken down like this
Regular Card is the SP to the set
Silver Version is Jersey #100
Gold Version is Piece of the Puck #50
Platinum Version would be piece of the puck/jersey #10
Rainbow Version would be Puck/Jersey Auto #5
Onyx version would be Puck/Patch/Auto 1/1
or some sort of combination.
