BGS grading - I give up!
I know this is hockey card chat, but for such a famous card & its impact on BGS grading, hopefully no one will crucify me too hard.
Here's the now famous 16k+ card, scanned after it was pulled Guesses on BGS grade anyone? Anyone at all?

BGS 9.5
Unless BGS's published guidelines have been changed, there's no way that card is a 9.5
If you care to, here's the video discussing the grade:
For those who collect graded cards, do you think this will positively affect the value of your collection (BGS graded cards are associated with some of the most popular cards in the hobby) or negatively (devalues the cards with grades because BGS overgraded them)? Or something else entirely?

It is obviously another strike for BGS. Back is off-center as well, problems with corners on the back, roughtness on edge, etc... this card is not gem mint. The more they talk, the worst it is. What is the background of a "grader"? Who knows, maybe one of the guys on the video has qualifications to work at McDonald's. Because as graders they totally fail the test! At least BGS has nice looking slabs... but the grading section is pointless with inconsistent grading.

I foresee the beckett haters jumping on this one right away. I personally don't see a problem with it. And I just want to give props to the lucky guy who won this card, the one will win the Strasburg 1/1 auto, and the one who won the Henderson jersey. It creates new interest in/for the hobby, and keeps the values of our collection high.

Seriously, the centering worth a 9???? Beckett gave a 9, because with less than this sub-grade the card wasn't 9.5 overall. If corners on the back are not perfect like they clearly say on video, so no way it is 9.5 for corners. Ok, maybe you like BGS, but how do you explain this?

Have you inspected the card first-hand?

I hope you see the centering, and did you listen what they said on the video about corners condition, edge? 9.5 is supposed to be flawless. Did you check the video?

Yes, I checked the video before making a comment. And yes, I checked my BGS cards as well (PSA and KSA too). And if anything, my problem would be the edges. But what do I know? I'm no professional grader. Otherwise, I wouldn't be wasting money sending my cards to be graded.
On other note, let's see what the Strasburg auto 1/1 grades at. I'm not about to raise a Spockian eyebrow just yet.

I simply think reoddai is right on here, no need to defend BGS on the poor job they did, and the explanations they give on the video are simply not helping them. The terms "professional grader" don't exist, if you know some basic guidelines for sports cards you are as qualified as these "professional". We speak about guys at $7/hour with no certifications in a industry with no regulations, so we are far from a profession.

for all who care to listen.grading should be done profesionally.not with anyone in mind.i listened for about 15 seconds and heard 4 or 5 errors on the card.but to them they all meet the guidelines of a 9.5. near gem mint.funny how other peoples cards are found to have 1 or 2 errors and are graded 8.5.know this through experience.had a card that averages 9 and 9.5 all around except for 1 8.5,ended up with an 8.
so for me with bgs,its who you know not waht you know.and its not a personal poke on beckett.when in the buisness to do grading it should be done as said,by profesionals.can i or some of you guys be a grader, from what i have heard here, there are a few who can grade better then what that card was graded at.
