    What Year?

    I know hockey cards are set up as two year sets like the season, 09-10, but on the back of the card it has one year usually. It will have either early year or later, is this based on when the cards come out?

    If so is there a way I can see in what order cards were released per year?

    I'm getting a little neurotic about reorginizing my hockey cards, but I want to make it right.

    Thanks in advanced.

    on the back of the card is a single year that is the copyright date, I assume this is what you are referring too. That's just the year it was printed in. As far as organizing the cards, I find it easiest to put them in order by set alphabetically like Beckett does. Hope that helps

    Upper Deck's website checklist lists their releases in order by release date;
    http://sports.upperdeck.com/collecto...rsets.aspx?s=3

    Most of the actual dates are wrong since they were subsequently pushed back. The order is correct and I can verify that for 04-05 and onward. At least since I started collecting, I've never herd of a set jumping another for its release time.

    As for the other hockey sets, ITG usually releases in this order:
    H&P, BTP, Ultimate

    You can check out their checklists here:
    http://www.itgtradingcards.com/products.html

    I think they are listed in chronological with earliest listed first in each year. So, for example;
    08-09 H&P
    BTP
    Ultimate
    07-08 H&P
    BTP
    Ultimate

    This means that 07-08 H&P was release first, then 07-08 BTP, then 07-08 Ultimate, then 08-09 H&P, 08-09 BTP, then 08-09 Ultimate. Hope that makes sense.

    Pre-Lockout sets, like Topps, Pacific, etc. I have no idea.

    Still for ordering your sets, alphabetical may be the way to go as joshpackham suggests. I sort by year, then release name, then alphabetical by subset name, then by insert numbering / lettering.

    Cheers,
    reoddai

    The copyright date is not the way to go. Often if you want to know the year, take a player card that played the year before and you should see the last season stats so if you see 1992-93 as the last season, then you know it 1993-94 season.

    Then I use set name order for a current season. Much easier when you search for specific card organised by season and ordered by set name.

    for insert, it can sometime be harder. The copyright date can help to narrow it two 2 season range. Often beckett have image on the set page of a sample card of the set and the design may help you narrow the season. If not found there, do a search on google to find sample image either on ebay or other selling sites.
