Who's watching Deadliest Catch?
and who's had tears the last few episodes. lol
Ever since jake got caught stealing his dad's pain meds the shows have been so sad and yet so good. I know josh wanted to make his dad proud and try to run the boat, but I'm so glad he was talked into flying to anchorage instead. Knowing how the story ultimately ends it was a wise decision. That time he got to spend with his dad during his final days will be something he will cherish for the rest of his life. I'm glad his friend (can't remember his name) swayed him into going.

Man ... I just got the goosebumps thinking about it ...
I was in shock when Jake told Phil he was an addict, I mean you could tell he was on something but you never want to hear the word ... addict.
I also agree that it was a good move by Josh to fly in and spend the time with his dad, the guy who talked him into it was Freddy, who also lost his dad while he was at sea. You could see in the episode last night that Freddy was really shaken by this and truly wanted Josh to be with Phil ... kind of an eary premonition if you ask me!
I think there is two more episodes with Phil and then the second to last episode from what I read is going to be a tribute to Phil.
What a sad season!!

ah. freddy. I just couldn't think of his name. He needs some time on after the catch if you ask me. What he said was spot on. That's pretty much the part of the show that got me. I'm glad to hear they'll do a tribute to phil. I just hope it's not a typical clip show. Hopefully it won;t be. Discovery has done a very good job of handling this in my opinion. It's tough to see the captains react to the news and when they show them clips on After the Catch. Goes to show everyone that they aren't just heartless task masters that they have to be on the boat.
I hope they do some update on jake's recovery. I know he had a DUI after his dad passed back in the winter. He was on after the catch for a few minutes a couple weeks ago and he looked good. hopefully he's able to kick whatever he was using. It's actually quite surprising that he admitted his addiction right there to his dad and I'm sure glad phil's initial reaction of cutting him from his life was just that and he had time to think about things and decide to stand by his son.

Yeah Josh did an interview ... here is the link if you want to read it .. and they ask him a little about Jake and his problems ... I think Jake has turned his life around after the passing of his father.

And from a site I found this about the tribute show ... it will be the 2nd to last show this season and will air July 20th 2010 after the regular episode.
A special one-hour look back at the life of Captain Phil Harris, skipper of F/V Cornelia Marie. The special includes interviews with fellow captains and deckhands, memorable “Phil moments” from the past six seasons of DEADLIEST CATCH, never-before-seen footage from behind the scenes and fan remembrances recorded at CatchCon 2010 and Phil’s public memorial service in Seattle.

I've watched the show from the beginning as well. They actually had a three part documentary about crab fishing before they started deadliest catch that was similar to the what the show is today. I've never been able to catch it again. I'd love to track down those shows (3 parts). I think quite a few of the captains we know today were on those shows as well.
As for this season, tuesday is going to be heart wrenching to say the least. I don't have a problem with them showing what they have. They've done it very well and from what I heard when phil was in the hospital he told the camera man to keep shooting because they had to "finish the story". The guys seem so cold and harsh on the seas, but from the last few episodes you can see that's not exactly who they are. Not that I wish bad things to happen, but this is exactly why people love this show. It truly is "reality" TV.

I wanna say Jake got hit with a DUI, but I cant remember. And then, don't forget about the other Jake on Sig's ship, his father is still missing. It was very sad when I saw the news on Phil's passing on yahoo, back in ooooh was it Feb???

Yes, Jake got hit with a DUI I remember that as well. I personally don't think they would have shown a lot of this if the family asked DISC not to. Thats a pretty serious issue. DISC has done a very good job with everything, and to know the outcome makes what they have shown a lot more real. I do think they will show a fair amount of clips and captains speak as the show goes on.
I would like to agree with the rest of you. It was nice to see Freddy talk to Josh about going to see Phil.

My wife and I have watched this show from the beginning (as well as the 3 part series mentioned above) I actually dedicated my ebay 'about me' page to Phil back when the story broke. I had a Father I AM VERY PROUD OF - but if I had not had one in my life, I would have wanted PHIL as my Dad. In sooooooooooo many ways, I can relate to Phil. His mannerisms, his outlook on life, kids, and work.
Good Bless you Phil, Josh & Jake.............

I know Todd Stanley, director of photography, who is the one filming in the wheelhouse with Phil. Phil told him after his lung issue that if something were to happen with him, Todd needed to keep the camera rolling because the story "needs an ending." Phil was ultimately the one who I think convinced Discovery to put all this on because he wanted everything to be shown.
