How do you define a high end card?

It's pretty much already been stated, but the thing is if you set the standard too high then nobody will be able to deal in it.
If you go by book/sale value and you've got a card that books or sells over $500, odds are you're going to get it graded and send it to auction if your prerogative is to sell it.
If you go by "set cost," or production quality -i.e. Black/Ultimate/Cup/OPCP/ITG Ultimate - then a lot of people aren't going to want to open your "high end" thread to see a bunch of base cards, because to a lot of people aside from player collectors, a base card is a base card whether it's worth $0.05 or $10.00

I think a better term would be "commonplace high-end," then the NPDTS/$100 is a good standard. It's a level at which people can deal with each other for a variety of nicer/rarer items whether they spent hundreds of dollars on a pack or spent $5 and got lucky.

So are you suggesting that because one card already has a title as one type of card, they cannot fall in other categories? Therefore, patch is a patch even if it's low #'d, it can't be a high-end because it's already a patch/memorabilia card? The same goes for serial numbers lol.

It's like taking a Lamborghini and since it is already an expensive car, we can't call it a sports car. Which in fact, a Lamborghini is an expensive sports car. Just like a Sidney Crosby high-end rookie.

Sorry, but the ONLY special title a card can get in this hobby is RC, then that ALL the other cards of a player are in the same boat and regulated by its rarity and demand (indirectly value). Do you agree?

Following your discussion, how do you qualify a graded RC card? High-end depending of the grade? A RC card #/399 with a 4-color patch is high-end because difficult to find with 4-colors? What is a Sidney Crosby high-end rookie? The Cup only? I hope you won't tell us a Crosby Young Gun RC is a high-end card because selling for over $100 (who haven't pull a Crosby Young Gun RC) when it is produced in thousands of copies. RC cards are different than ANY other kind of cards (base, parallel, inserts, etc.), its value is different just because of its rookie designation.

My feeling is, and there is no solution for this, some people could be offended by "high-end" definitions, depending of what people collects. I hope people could throw tentative definitions instead of complaining about people trying to make this thread going forward.

I think the funny thing for me is that you see a thread where someone is selling off their "HIGH-END" only to find it a bunch of YG's like Stamkos or Toews and some SPGU stuff or ITG UM suff that you can buy on ebay for $25.

High end is a card over $100 sale value and a print run under 25 for me.What some people call high end is what others consider mid to low end.It all depends on what a individual considers high end from there stand point.It is different from person to person.Also wouldn't a crosby SPA,SPX,Ultimate,Hot prospects,Rookie Update be considered a high end seeing that they usually sell for over the $500 mark?
