    Anyone been geocaching?

I was thinking of taking my girlfriend on a couple cache hunts near our house using my iPhone. It would definitely be something relaxing to do outside of the house and cheap!

Has anyone been geocaching? Is it fun? What types of items do you find/leave?

I've never been but have heard of it. It sounds pretty fun to me and cheap.

I've been looking into doing this as well.. but can't at the moment as my wife is on crutches for a few weeks (blew out her knee playing soccer!). Seems like a really cool idea though -- I was thinking of leaving sportscards! How cool would that be? Like just a Leafs base card or something... like a calling card.
For anyone who hasn't heard about geocaching - there's a great site (www.geocaching.com) and also a movie called 'Splinterheads' which features geocaching -- here's the trailer:

There is acually a cache behind my work place. I had no idea about the practice until I caught someone snooping around and asked a co-worker that knew of geocaching and looked it up on the internet. After a few minutes looking, we found the cache. There was nothing in the film canister except a sheet of paper with a couple dozen names and dates on it - presumably from others that had found it going back a few years......

Personally, It's an interesting and definitely cheap way to spend your time.

BUT - I'd rather invest $100 in a metal detector and spend my free time looking for 'lost treasures'! I've only found pocket change, a few minor old items (a Local class ring from about 30 years ago among other things......) and a wrist-watch so far, but seems to me to be a little more profitable way of wasting my time.........

Yeah, I don't quite live in an area for great metal detectoring and the beach is a couple hours away. I think I'd only find pocket change if I did it around here lol.

Plus the puzzles of geocaching would keep my girlfriend interested. I told her I wanted to go out to the gold mines and look for gold and she says it sounds like something her grandfather would go do and only old people do it, lol. She'd say the same if I bought a metal detector lol.
