Thinking about quitting SCF. Why should I stay?

So I recently joined and got really excited about online trading in an environment like this one. Before this site I had traded on myspace and a site that was closed down called ultimatetradingonline (had very few members) and bought a bit on ebay but had never really had such an experience. I made like 25 trades in my first few weeks. Then I sent them out. One trader was supposed to receive a Chris Johnson SPX auto RC and a Score Gold Zone Hot Rookie auto /40. When he received his package the SPX was missing. Another trader was supposed to receive a CJ TRP auto and Finest auto. He only received the RP. Iam NOT naming names or accusing ANYBODY but one person (or 2) out of the other 23 or for all I know the people themselves. Have just received 2 Chris Johnson autograph RC's absolutely FREE!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to them. So therefore Iam most likely going to finish the current trades I have pending and then I will log off for the last time. Anyone out there know of any reasons I shouldnt just cut my losses and leave? Cause Im about 90% sure Iam going to. I NEVER would have joined this site if I knew I was going to get ripped off like this. This site looked too good to be true for a lifetime collector, guess I was right........

Yeah, I have had very few problems on here either. And shapingle is right, it might be a tough thing to do, but start out slow. Get yourself some trades, find some nice traders that you really like, and keep trading with them. There are a lot of good traders out there, and you just need to find the ones you really like and trust. I can't say much for high end trading, as I don't do a lot of it. Most of what I have done for higher end has been with people I trust and have traded with for a while.

One other thing you can try is trad with me. I am easy to deal with. but I don't have anything high end. So, if you ever come across any Boston area cards, feel free to look me up. I don't have a ton of stuff for trade, but if you find anything, and have anything for me, look me up.

Good luck. Hope not to lose you because of a couple of bad experiences!

I unfortunately can no longer afford to trade outside of the US. Even Canada rates are way too high!

I don't trade on SCF, but do buy a few lots. I'd say stay for the chatter. Even if you don't want to trade there are lots of interesting discussions happening to be a part of.

Unfortuntaley a lot of rip off artests and scammers came over from Beckett and I also had encountered far too many of them. This was a great site and still can be but just be carefull. If the other person doesn't have a rating of higher than 20 I refuse to send first. If they won't provide a pic or scan of the card then it's not worth trading for.
If they refuse to send first and you have way more feedback then something is Fishy.

Just be upfront with people, let them know they must send first etc... by the site rules, and also make sure you see exactly what you are getting before commiting.

If they keep giving excuses etc... then they are probably trying to rip you off report them ASAP. It's the only way to keep this site clean of the scum.

I'm sorry you've had such a bad expierece here. But unfortunatley you'll run into these problems on every trading site. Rule of thumb only trade with those that have great feedback.....one negative is one too many.

They even have a link to chat about ANYTHING(as long as it's clean).
I'm startin' to post a few weird clippings/videos. If nobody's offended,
    it may be consistant(2-4/day).

You can often sense a good/bad vibe off certain people.
Some take longer to trade for certain reasons(I know it
has nothin' to do w/ur issue tho).

In my case, I don't drive & work wknds. So unless someone goes
to town, I can only mail on tues or wed(days I ALWAYS have off
    (partyin' reasons LOL)).

I just got back from spendin' a few days w/friends that lost their
mother to breast cancer. Very heart-felt concert was performed
by him(has a new single out now, too...different direction than
    what he normally performs).

Although we sympathize for bein' ripped off...for every scammer, there's 99
    honest souls(in my experience anyway).

Hope ya stick it out(just don't take my Packers!!LOL)

there are definatly some dirtbag members here. unfortunatly there are even some mods here that arnt very good traders or members and are sadly allowed to continue being mods and doing as they please. its a bigger community them most here so there are more dirtbag members here then on other smaller sites and they are sometimes harder to find here because there are thousands and thousands of members. if you feel like you need to leave then i cant blame you. my first bunch of trades were quite good its only recently ive been running into the underbelly of the SCF community. honestly if i had the experiences you had early on or if i had the experiences i had lately early on i would have called it quits to.

I have searched around for other forums and I know this one is the best. But with that said, in life anywhere you go there are gonna be bad people. There is no place you can go where you have 0 risk of running into a scammer, they are out there you just have to be careful. You've run into some really bad luck though, I'd say I run into one bad trade every 40-50 trades or so. Having 2 in your first 25 is just bad luck IMO.

These guys have it right on the nose. There are ALOT of members here and therefore a wide spectrum of bad to great traders/buyers/sellers.

I personally have my own set of criteria of dealing with members, and these guys stated some of them such as having a bad feeling, not stating when they will ship, whether or not they will use delivery confirmation, show scans of cards without asking for them, getting excuses, not getting replies in a timely manner, waiting for them to receive before they send you yours, etc.

One other useful tool I use is to look at all the feed back left for a member, and even go as far as reading their recent posts to get a better feel for how they treat others and such.

So in a nutshell we all unfortunetely need to be careful of who we deal with.
