    question about a grading company

Has anyone ever used GEM Grading inc. to have cards graded? Is it a decent company to get cards graded from? I traded some doubles i had for a Michael Jordan 1991 upper deck baseball card that was graded a Gem Mint 10 by them. I looked on beckett at the population report and saw there has not been any BGS gradings on this card at higher than 9.5. Just wondering what people think of that company and how well they grade cards. Any input would be appreciated.

I wouldnt buy anything graded by anything other than PSA, BGS or SGC.....but thats just me. Usually you can find these "off brand" grading companys slabbing everything a 9 or 10 and they dont sell well.

The Only reason(s) I ever buy an offshoot graded card....1)If it's hard to find 2) because it's encased. But I still like to be able to see it... I've seen some astounding things slabbed...lol
Actually the more I think about it, unless it's high-end vintage, or authentication.. that's the only reason I even buy from the big 3 either. Many 8's & 9's don't command a premium.

Todays "Premium Stock" cards rarely need to be graded..I find a single screw holder/team bag combo works great.

Oh yeah..There's definately better alternates than Gem. For both grading, and encasing. Add GAI to Bama's list..imho

I'm a big fan of grading cards & comics... but you need the right company to do it for you. For cards: BGS & PSA are the best, most widely accepted, & adds the most value. SGC comes in third for cards, but they're huge for coins. CGC is best for comics.

Anyhow... if I were you, and really wanted to have it graded right, I'd send it off to BGS or PSA for a regrading. I'm pretty sure that both offer that service.
