My Post Office Story
The post office destroyed my mail and Money Order, but at least they apologized! I'm guessing this is from the automated machines that process mail.

Anyone have an idea how to recoup the $20 without the numbers at the bottom of the money order?

I love how they "hope it hasn't inconvenienced you", but offer no way to remedy the situation if it has.

that stinks.
I shipped a book a few weeks back via media mail. It was a thick heavy bok and I shipped in in a box. last week I get a letter from the USPS with my address, shipping address, and meter labels taped to it. The letter says that somehow the items inside got separated from the mailing supply. My guess is they inspected it since I sent it media mail and it was in a box and they couldn't easily tell that it was a book. That said, how in the heck does a book that probably weighs 20 pounds get separated from a well taped box. Anyway they have a form on the back that you can send in with some item information and they will try to find the item. Pretty laughable but I will give it a try. At least they will give me the 5.11 it cost me to ship if they can't find it.

Same thing happened to me. I sold a lot of NES games and the PO lost it because it was Media Mail.

I'm looking at getting the stub the sender keeps. It should have the numbers I need. I'll see if my bank can accept that.

If they do not is the PO going to reimburse you the money order amount since the essentially ruined it. If your bank does not accept the MO then the PO essentially just tore up cash bills on you.

You can cash postal money orders at the post office, Mike...try taking it there and seeing if they can do that for you, even though it's destroyed.
