Question Hand serial numbered cards = real???

How do you know if a card is real if it is "hand serial numbered"? Like all the serial numbered cards I have are foil stamped. But some on ebay are Sharpie'ed on there by hand like "1/1" or "1/2". How do I know these are real, or if some guy on ebay just wrote it on there himself?

Or the card company will put some special antifraud hologram sticker on the card as well.

How does this work to prevent a seller from writing the number on it himself? Thanks.

If there's no sticker or some kind of stamp (a lot of these will have one of those imprinted stamps on them), then there's a good chance that the seller did just take out a sharpie and number it himself.

It works because only the card company has the sticker, so if it doesn't have the sticker it's a fraud.

Yes UD does...but then again, UD's cards that are hand numbered are cards that are very hard to duplicate....like such as a Used Check of Babe Ruth and plus, UD actually has the emblems in the back of them, which is one of the harder ones to duplicate.

I agree Nasty, but just because it is hand numbered does not mean it is fake like the previous posts stated.

A lot of hand numbered cards are cards that used to be machine serial numbered but were damaged and replaced by the card company. If you want it machine numbered, it takes up to 3 months to get it back from the manufacturer, hand numbered takes about half the time. They keep a record of it on file, so you can call the manufacturer and they can tell you whether it's real or not.
